Naomi Osaka wins Australian Open, becomes world number one

Japan’s Naomi Osaka beat Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic to clinch her second consecutive Grand Slam women’s singles title.

Osaka beat Kvitoka in three straight sets of 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 to win the 2019 Australian Open.

By virtue of her win, the 21-year-old rising star is now ranked number one in the world.

She has become the youngest female tennis number one player since Caroline Wozniacki.

A year ago, Osaka was ranked at No. 72 and had never won a WTA title.

The 2018 US Open champion went home with $4.1 million prize money.
