OPINION: Winter Olympics, Patriotism at its Best, By Tobenna Obiano

These beautiful souls and charming ladies deserve to be applauded and appreciated by all well-meaning Nigerians, for they have shown unequaled love for nation and for all her people.

It has been said that they weren’t raised here in Nigeria, but were raised in the United States. Therefore, they have every reason not to bother about going in to represent Nigeria in whatsoever capacity or at any event, but no, they are patriots and have proved it beyond bounds.

These super-women on their own volition, chose to spend their personal resources, footing their bills in training themselves, to procure any training equipment, paying to use the needed facilities where they are available and went ahead to sponsor themselves, paying for their trip to South Korea only to represent Nigeria, a country which rightly may not be theirs directly, but that of their parents.

As I write, they are in South Korea to compete at the ongoing Winter Olympics; ofcourse this is a sport that Nigeria don't participate in. Nigeria never feature athletes for the winter Olympics basically because we don't do winter sports and we don’t even experience winter here.

These amazing ladies have put up the name of Nigeria again in the world map, as we are featuring in a sports that is alien even to our own people. For this singular act of true love for fatherland, for Nigeria and us all, they have richly won a most deserving place in our hearts and soul, they have won our love, our respect and our admiration. They are wonder girls.

The sport is actually said to be known as Bobsled and by the worthy representation of our beautiful Queens, Nigeria is fully in for the game.

Go girls, go for Gold!
