Anambra speaker calls for total elimination of female genital mutilation practices

The Speaker of Anambra state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu has assured that the state legislature will continue to enact laws aimed at giving adequate security to the female folks in the state.


In her message to mark 2018 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, Rt. Hon. Maduagwu posited that altering or injuring the female genitalia is not only inhumane but a clear violation of human rights for girls and women.

The Speaker call on communities, churches as well as other social agencies to mount serious campaign towards elimination of all harmful practices against girls and women especially female genital mutilation in view of its negative consequences.

She further stated that total elimination of female genital mutilation practices would help to eradicate all pregnancies and child bearing problems among girls and women and allow themselves live without fear.
