OPINION: Humility Of Self-Worth Versus Ego, By Tobenna Obiano

Often times, the two aforementioned are wrongly mistaken interchangeably. They are misused, misrepresented and maybe also, misunderstood. This is actually wrong and shouldn't be so.

Never ever have the wrong perception or confusion in the understanding of those two, self-worth and ego. They are distinctively two different things with clearly different meanings.

Self-worth may correlate to the value of oneself to respect from others. It may be understood as the measure on how much a person is loved and respected by others.

Therefore, it is from building self-worth, value, respect or confidence that ego may mature to sow its ugly head. If not held back almost immediately, it ends up overtaking a person whole and entire. That's the part of us that seeks recognition and attention. In entirety, it may not be wholly a bad thing, but then, it has a dual capability, one of making us or the other, of destroying us. It is our diligence, determination and maturity in managing it's foreseeable excesses that matters the most.

If one can intelligently and honestly deal decisively or manage the temptous path and excesses that often follows ego, yet remaining who he or she is, without struggling to put others down or in harms way, for obvious selfish reasons, or to score cheap points, or for vainglorious stands, then ego may afterall not be bad, most especially if it's geared where acting as your motivating factor along the struggles to making a better you.

Above all else, nothing equates displaying a variant level of self-worth, value and respect upon self. As an individual, do set a standard while striving to achieve and maintain same, live a life worthy of emulation, spur and dare for the heights, even break the ceiling and reach wide into the horizon, love to respect yourself and live a principled life filled with happiness and fulfillment.

Lastly, never get too comfortable even when you have achieved all those. There are no new records left to be broken, if you match and beat an old one, into creating a new record, mind you that many are following with the speed of light to catch-up and overpower you. Strive to keep you head-up and keep pushing.

Humility they say is a virtue, wear it like cloth and spread its sweet fragrance. Do value yourself and don't go below your standard, yet never be defeated by your ego. Humble yourself!
