BREAKING: Massive 8.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Mexico Sparking Fears Of Tsunami

A massive 8.2 earthquake was reported to have struck 60 miles off the coast of Mexico, according to the US geological survey.

Fears of a possible tsunami have also been reported, according to NBC.

The earthquake was felt throughout Mexico, shaking buildings in the country's capital, and reports indicate that the tremor reached as a far as Austin, Texas.

People in Mexico City ran out into the streets after the quake struck, a Reuters witness said.

The US Tsunami Warning System said widespread hazardous tsunami waves were possible within the next three hours on the Pacific coasts of several central American countries - Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras and Ecuador.

The country's last major quake was recorded in 2014, with a magnitude of 7.4 hitting the state of Guerrero, near Acapulco on 18 April at 14.

The country last experienced an earthquake reaching a magnitude 8.0 earthquake in 1995, striking just three miles away from the city El Colomo.

In 2011, an 8.9-magnitude quake surged across the coastline of Japan, causing a massive tsunami that killed over 10,000 people. The natural phenomenon also knocked out cooling systems at Tokyo Electric Power Co’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, causing reactors to melt down and spew radiation into the air, soil and sea.
