Apart from Delilah, there were two other women in the life of Samson and all of them played a part in leading him to the temple of Dagon where he committed suicide.
For 20 years, Samson sustained a life of unrestrained promiscuity, an unbridled sexual perversion that only came to a disastrous end when he lost his eyes in the event of his captivity to the Philistines. A mighty man that's strapped down like an animal, he was born a Nazirite unto God, he died like a common criminal.
The commonest thing men do when they can't figure their way into a woman's heart is to propose marriage on the first date. It sounds absurd but that was how Samson began his downward journey to self destruction. He cajoled his parents into believing that he genuinely wanted to marry a strange woman when in truth, Samson was nurturing a sprouting sexual appetite. When the phantom marriage broke down, a subtler Samson with sufficient experience in concealing his burgeoning sexual immorality was born.
Samson began to go down to a prostitute by night, each trip got him farther away from his glorious destiny but Samson didn't know. He mistook his exploits against a tiger and then the Philistines as marks of his indestructibility but Delilah was waiting in the dark to demystify him for a change.
As I imagined Samson being curdled in between the laps of Delilah, I could not but weep for this mighty man that's blindly pushing his way to a career suicide. Samson became a con artist in a bid to escape the looming calamity he brought upon himself but Delilah was a patient dog. She waited for many days, until the reserved Samson opened up. He was born a deliverer, a judge of transgressions but he died a transgressor, in the captivity of his enemies. A strong man that used to kill thousands became a clown that entertained his enemies. He became ashamed of himself and opted for a suicide. The saviour Samson ended his life unceremoniously with that of the Philistines.
