I find the idea of sitting through the night to watch two grown men fight as stupid.
I find the idea of having to pay to watch two grown men fight as beyond stupid.
The only thing I find more stupid, is Lynda watching all those India movies on Zee world. Worse still? Remembering the stories from previous episodes. To watch Zee World because one wants to kill boredom may be pardonable, but to commit the story to memory like Lynda does, is not.
But just now, it struck me how Lynda feels every Saturday when I watch 22 grown men chase a round leather on the field.
How stupid she must have considered me those times my entire evening was ruined just because Arsene Wenger has obstinately chosen to be Arsene Wenger.
Now, I'm glad I have never told Lynda she was stupid because of her preference in entertainment.
Indeed, we are ALL STUPID DIFFERENTLY. But we have managed to live together despite our different taste in entertainment. And that's the goal - living peacefully together.
Now, take this accommodating spirit you have in entertainment to more important matters, like Freedom of expression. Like, acknowledging the rights of peaceful protesters at Wuse market. I know it's hard. But you can do it, if you try.
Apply this spirit again to the Freedom of Worship. Now, acknowledge the right of those who worship God facing the sun. Also, respect the right of those who believe that God is an unexplainable trinity. While at it, please don't overlook the rights of those who worship God with a hot drink in one hand, a kola in the other hand, and a white chalk drawn across their faces. And yes, give the same respect to the atheist and the agnostic.
For we are all stupid differently.
When you have done this, then perhaps, you would have achieved the extended version of the respect Christ admonished us to show to everyone when he said; "give to Ceasar, what is Caesar's; and to God, what is God's".
When you have done this, then you would arrive at the real practice of DEMOCRACY (Ochichi onye kwuo Uche ya).
When you have done this, then you would have listened to the plea of that great singer Oliver d Coque; "bili kam mbili" (Live and let live).
