I agree with the submissions of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN which is this: the supreme leader of IPOB has flouted his bail conditions and therefore should go back to prison.
Lets us not forget that not too long ago, some group of people who called themselves Arewa youths came together and gave an inciting order and hate speech against their fellow compatriots staying in the North.
These guys were gallivanting all over the place after making that hate speech, they were not arrested nor picked up.
In fact some of our brothers and sisters in the north supported them and some were openly boasting on social media they will unleash violence on Igbos staying in the North if "these bastards" (In their words) do not leave the north after October 1 ultimatum.
Whether this threat will be carried out is what I don't know as we wait with bated breath to that October 1 deadline.
Just yesterday, UN experts in Geneva joined the list of men of good conscience calling for the arrest of the so called self styled Arewa youths for issuing a quit notice to Igbo living in the northern part of Nigeria.
In a statement issued yesterday in Geneva, three UN experts urged the Federal Government to arrest those behind a song that sought to disparage the Igbo. The experts include Mr. Mutuma Ruteere, Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance; Mr. Fernand de Varennes, Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues; and Ms. Anastasia Crickley, Chairperson of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The statement reads: ‘’We are gravely concerned about this proliferation of hate messages and incitement to violence against the Igbo and their property, especially considering the previous history of such violence. “The government must be vigilant, as hate speech and incitement can endanger social cohesion and threaten peace by deepening the existing tensions between Nigeria’s ethnic communities. We are deeply concerned that some prominent local leaders and elders have not condemned the ultimatum, hate speech, and the perpetrators.
As expected, Nigerian government under the watch of Muhammed Buhari said No way, we can't arrest them because they have withdrawn the so called Ultimatum but they want to arrest Nnamdi Kanu who is guilty of the same offence but can't arrest Arewa youths.
According to the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau; “The group that called themselves coalition of Arewa Associations that held a press conference in Kaduna where they gave October 1 ultimatum to the Igbos to quit the north as a response to what they termed as issue of separatist agenda of the IPOB and claim that there are lots of incitement from the Igbos against the northerners to which the Kaduna State governor responded that they should be arrested for what they reported.
“Of course they later claimed that the media quoted them out of context. I am very much aware that the DSS invited all of them, held a meeting with them to which they made a statement to the effect that what was reported in the media was not what they said.
“They further wrote to the acting President indicating that they did not make inciting statement as to the issue of violence or forceful ejection of the Igbos in the north. However, it was on the basis of that, the northern elders called them to also reaffirm from them that what was reported is not exactly what they meant”.
I don't know if Buhari and his advisers understand what is called Optics but the truth is that the message some of us who are Pro Nigerian are getting from this whole charade is that in this Animal kingdom called Nigeria, some animals are superior than others.
Nnamdi Kanu will go back to prison while Arewa youths will be roaming around free because obviously we are not equal in this Nigeria project.
The whole drama surrounding the call for his arrest shows that this thing called one Nigeria under the government of Buhari is an expensive joke, a delusion and does not exist.
