US Supreme Court Allows Trump’s Travel Ban

The United States supreme court on Monday allowed President Donald Trump’s temporary ban on travellers from six Muslim-majority countries until it reviews it later this year.

Recall that on March 6, Trump’s executive order had halted the issuance of visas to people coming from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days

It also halted the issuance of new refugee admissions for 120 days.

But a lower court blocked the ban which was upheld by two appeal court’s and the Trump administration appealed to the supreme court.

Critics have called the order a mean-spirited, intolerant and un-American “Muslim ban” and a group known as the American Civil Liberties Union argued that the order violated federal immigration law.

They also argued that it violated the constitution’s First Amendment prohibition on the government favouring or dis-favouring any particular religion.

The Trump administration had said the travel ban was needed to allow time to implement stronger vetting measures.
