OPINION: Men Are Trash! - By Tobenna Obiano

I'm quick to wave off nonsensical utterances once I run into them. I have seen a trending post, I tried to ignore it, I honestly strived so hard, "ma na, okwero m", I couldn't hold myself back.

Now, understandably, Nigeria has remained a failed state. The Western world refer to Nigeria and nations in her class as amongst the underdeveloped nations of the world, where I even think it's "undeveloping", and testaments abound.

The Nigerian Government of this day is a pitiable, shameful, ignorant and most ridiculous one that we have had. Nothing ever equals planlessness, dishonesty, culture of lies, and bad governance.

There is so much hate in the land, so much hunger, so much anger, so much devastation and even more. A chunk percentage of the Nigerian youth are broken down because of one reason or another, these instances are well understood, but Hey, it's not enough reason to throw tantrums on others under the choice of passing on your troubles.

The other time, what did trend was, "All Men Are Goats", which back then, I beckoned on the slayers who used such reference on the male folks asking, if they have fed their fathers, uncles, brothers, husbands, boyfriends or sons with goat feed, "nri-ewu", grass!

Today, a set of ignoramuses have chosen another appalling, insulting, shaming and saddening reference upon the make folks, "Men Are Trash". I wouldn't bother reminding these class of slayers again that those trashy men included wholly and most importantly, their fathers, uncles, brothers, husbands, boyfriends and even sons.

To what purpose do people make these foolish statements and even gather the morale, the audacity and temerity to share it on social media and it even goes viral. Some even have the mind to have it imprinted, as customized on their shirts or polos. It's true that illiterates purchase whatsoever they see without reading it; does it also men that these "beautiful" ladies wearing those insignia of men as trashy or goats are all illiterates!

I have heard fellow men, mostly young people refer to women in mostly unprintable words, how on earth can someone who has a mother, a sister a wife, an Aunty and maybe also, a daughter or hopes to have one, refer to the women folks as "slut" or any of such dirty choice of words.

It's unfortunate that we live in a society that somehow has ditched in entirety her morals, holds back no reservations as to what to say, including in the abysmal usage of foul languages, I mean, what are all those for?

In more than two occasions, I have told close friends and associates that I might tolerate anything as a joke, but I will never take-in or forgive anyone either jokingly, playfully or for whatsoever nonsensical reason use such words: criminal, rapist or murderer on me. I will never forgive those class of fools.

Now, if a lady has become unlucky to have fallen into whatsoever with a class of misbehaving men, it doesn't equal to a generalized take that all men are trash! I wonder, does those men include I, and a chunk percentage of men both within and outside Nigerian shores. People can't be calling their fathers, brothers, uncles, husbands, boyfriends and sons goats or trashy. It's very insulting.

Also, if a man gets quite unlucky to fall into a class of slayers who misbehave and careless about what becomes of them or their future, for heaven's sake, it doesn't measure up to the stupid, insensitive and ignorant generalization that all ladies are "sluts", or does that include many women of substance that I know, both within and outside our shores. People can't continue to be calling their mothers, sisters, aunties, wives, girlfriends and daughters "sluts" and a side of divide feels it's okay.

"All men are thesame or all women are just same thing", we should be mindful of exceeding our limits while making any sort of generalized statements to avoid provoking a divide, it may not matter today, but might someday.

Well, following the latest of word "trash" for the men folks, it's intolerable and I condemn this class insensitivity, ignorance and foolishness in all words available to mankind.

Today, all over the social media, we have litanies of drama Queens, beauties without brain nor brawn, all that matters to them is that tag, "Slay Queen". Well, understanding may differ, until they have the humility coupled with the wonder D's of: drive, determination, discipline, decency wholly avoiding the last, distractions to aspiring to reaching the truest "Slay Class", they remain a slayer of their own negatives.

The picture on the left is a slay Queen, a myopic, ignorant and thoughtless stand of many young Nigerian ladies, and the other is the "Slay goddess", an Amazon herself, Dora Nkem Akunyili, the most decorated black woman of all time, who received nearly a thousand awards before her demise. If you can't match such outstanding achievement, your slaying is nonsensical.

Forgo the "slay Queen", it's for babies, go for "slay goddess", it's actually reserved for ladies!
