Death of Chibuike Okafor: Ukpor community in Durban takes up case • Autopsy ready on Wednesday.

The Ukpor community in Durban, South Africa has taken up the case of one of their own, Chibuike Okafor who was allegedly choked to death by South African police last week in Durban Central KwazuluNatal, cfrmagazine.com exclusively reports. 

According to our South African correspondent, the group called for an emergency meeting on Sunday and fund was raised immediately to conduct an autopsy.

One of the members who simply gave his name as Emeka, said the need for autopsy became pertinent because of the way and manner in which the Police handled everything. 

He said, "We are going to conduct an autopsy in other to determine the real cause of Chibuike's death, and by God's grace, the autopsy result would be ready by Wednesday and if the police are indicted, we'll take them to court. Our lawyers are with us. We believe the South African Police are hiding something. They claimed he slumped and died immediately he was arrested and handcuffed  but everyone knows it's not true. Everyone knows how the police behave when it comes to foreigners, most especially Nigerians. 

"The Police made away with all the CCTV's at the place but they didn't know they forgot a hand glove stained with blood. This is nothing but pure murder. According to the law here, it's not the police job to take away a body without the presence of the relations or forensic experts, but they quickly took his corpse to the morgue and opened a case. Everything is so suspicious but we're determined to get justice for our brother. A private doctor will conduct the autopsy because it could be manipulated in government hospital. It'll cost us a huge amount of money but we have accepted to bear the cost. All we want is justice for Chibuike. Hopefully the autopsy result will be out on Wednesday." 

Another member who doesn't want to be named said he had been in that situation before when he arrived South Africa newly. He said, "I can analyze what happened to Chibuike. He was probably choked to death with a plastic bag. When I came here newly, about 11 years ago, the police invaded our lodge in search of drug dealers. I told them I don't do drugs but they tortured me severely. One of them covered my face with a plastic bag, I struggled till I passed out. As a matter of fact, the last thing I saw was someone covering my face with a plastic bag. I woke up and saw people pouring water on me. It was God that saved me that day. Many people have been sent to their early grave by South African Police in this commando-style execution but we'll get justice for Chibuike. Even if you find something incriminating on someone, you don't murder them, the court is there to decide their fate. This is total wickedness."
