Joseph Edionwele, member House of Representatives from Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency of Edo State, in an interview with The Punch, talked about his experience at the National Assembly.
When asked why some lawmakers don’t speak at plenary sessions, the lawmaker said'
"That is left to their constituency to decide. People have different things they want to do here. Maybe, some of them are more active behind the scenes than those I consider to be ‘busy bodies’.
"There are those who influence more projects to their constituencies than speaking on the floor or moving motions. It depends on what their constituencies send them here to do.
"Personally, I read newspapers because I have to be really informed. If you don’t have adequate information, you won’t be current about things happen within the House.
"You may even be mocked by members. That is why some colleagues are reluctant to speak on the floor. First and foremost, you have to equip yourself with a lot of information; watching local and international news, reading articles and seeing the reactions of your people by going to your constituency"
