Ninth Senate: Why Anambra South made the best decision

It is not debatable that our nation is facing serious socio-political and economic threats. For so long, our politicians have held us in hostage, our dividends have been denied and our people have been left to languish in severe pain of deficient representation leading to mass poverty and infrastructural decay.

Our hope as a struggling nation is not lost even as the bright light at the end of the tunnel is yet to be seen. We can claim back our nation the day we start electing dogged, committed and vibrant politicians who are ready to bring fair share and equity to their long suffering people.

For Anambra South, they have made a popular acceptable choice because of their understanding that legislature is the bedrock of any nation that wants to survive democratically. The legislature is an instrument for making feasible laws, implementing the laws, promoting bills that take into considerations the plights of the people, carrying out constituency projects that are people oriented, empowering the people through checks and balances of the democratic process, carrying out oversight functions to make sure the people are feeling the impacts of their government, among others.

Ifeanyi Ubah has a lot of legislative roles to perform as a newly elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and more importantly for the socio-economic benefits of his constituents. He has said during the electioneering period that his senatorial ambition was borne out of his desire to be a part of the law making body that would foster rapid quality infrastructural development, recovery and repositioning of devastated Igbo economy. He will start immediately after being inaugurated even as we have started feeling his impact before this date. In fact, he knows the tremendous tasks that lie ahead and is willing to take on these daunting challenges head on.

It is true and clear that he fought tough campaigns and electoral battles before he could attain electoral success in the just concluded poll. He is still the man that can stand tall in the midst of any challenge. For Dr. Ubah is aware that the real battle will begin on the very first day he will take the constitutional oath; "to protect and promote the Nigeria's national interest through the instrumentality of legislation."

On the floor of the Ninth Assembly, it is the battle to give Anambra South New Face, to give Ndi-Anambra a New Hope, to give Ndi-Igbo New Dreams and to give Nigerians a New Aspiration. He has many a times, maintained he will deliver on the campaign manifesto he promised during the campaign and we are looking forward to such promises being fulfilled by heaven’s grace.

Importantly, our notice must be drawn to the fact that while Ifeanyi Ubah's agendas, roles and activities in the Ninth Senate Session will critically be evaluated, we should be reminded that on our quest to seek democratic consolidation, Nigeria is yet to show clear evidence of consolidating its democracy. Nigeria's democracy is still young and has been passing a lot of leadership and political challenges. But with the likes of Ifeanyi Ubah in the senate, we should hope to see a positive change in the narrative. Indeed, change has come to stay and Dr. Ubah is the face of the new change for our people. We ask for God’s grace and guiding light to see Dr. Ubah through in the tasks ahead.

Dr. Ubah shall on Tuesday, 11th of June, 2019 be inaugurated into the upcoming Ninth Assembly with other members-elect of Senate and House of Representatives.

Amb Adichie Izuchukwu, Chief Media Aide to Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
