‪Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki led the Principal Officers into the chambers; took the official prayers; and began the day’s proceedings at 10:49am.‬


‪Senator John Enoh moved for the approval of votes and proceedings of Wednesday, 20th March, 2019. Senator Joshua Lidani secon‬ded.

EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATION
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki read a letter from Mr. President on his request for confirmation of renewal of appointment of Hon. Omolola Abiola Edewor as Executive Director of Corporate Services of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki read seven (7) letters from Mr. President on his decision to decline assent to the following Bills:

I. Chartered Institute of Training and Development of Nigeria Bill, 2018.

II. Nigeria Aeronautical Research and Rescue Bill, 2018.

III National Institute of Credit Administration Bill, 2018.

IV. Ajaokuta Steel Company Completion Fund.

V. National Housing Fund Bill, 2018.

VI. Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria Bill, 2018.

VII. National Bio-technology Development Agency Bill, 2018.


‪POINT OF ORDER‬
Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan cited Order 43 and made reference to the demise of Hon. Muhammed Dantani who died on the 28th of March, 2019.

“It is our culture in the Senate and National Assembly in general that when this kind of thing happens either in Senate or House of Representatives we observe a minute silence and adjourn plenary in honour of our late brother and friend. May his soul Rest In Peace.”- Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan.

Minority Leader seconded.

Senate observed a minute silence in honor of the deceased Honorouble member.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki called on the Appropriations Committee to brief the Senate on when budget will be fully ready.

“Our report is not ready because some Committees are yet to submit their reports. For now we have less than 10 Committees that have submitted.”- Senator Sonni Ogbuoji (Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations)

“We will suspend plenary till the 9th of April. The Report should be ready by Friday.”- Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

“Any Committee that refuses to submit its Report by Friday, we will empower the Committee to go with the Executive submission.”- Senator Sonni Ogbuoji (Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations)

“All Committees should submit their budgets by Friday. The Senate should reconvene by April 9th, so that the budget will be laid either on the 9th, 10th, 11th.”- Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

ADJOURNMENT
Senate Leader moved that plenary be adjourned to 9th of April to enable Subcommittees work on the budget. ‪Minority Leader seconded.‬
