Woman seeks advice after her husband got angry for beating up her neighbour

Hide my ID please. My marriage is 12 years. In the compound where we live, there are four flats. They are all occupied. We live downstairs . The children at the compound are 7 in number, the people living upstairs by the left, those kids don't come down at all. They are in secondary school. My children are 3 boys. My children hardly come outside because the woman who lives in the other down stairs floor is nothing but a mad woman. I'm a house wife.


One day, my children came back from school, the school bus dropped them. I went to the market, so I didn't finish early. My first son said when the boy started playing ball around where I hunged clothes, he warned him but he was hitting the ball on my cloth dryer. As he was doing that, the dryer fell and he left it and was about entering inside their house. My son pursued him till he caught up with him, he asked him to go raise up the dryer he fell to the ground. He turned and blew my son in his mouth and he started bleeding, so his brother saw what happened and pounced on the boy and beat him mercilessly.

This woman has a boy and a girl. The girl is in boarding school. So his mother got back before me and flogged my children 6 stroke each without hearing from them because she doesn't believe her son can tell a lie. She flogged both my last child 6 strokes of cane. Since I have been living in that compound for the past 5 years, I have not even quarreled with this woman. When I drove in and parked, I was hearing my children's voices, I ran to understand why the three of them were crying, maybe because of hunger. I saw my kids hands with red. marks because my kids are fair. When I asked them what happened, they told me everything. I knocked on the ladies door, it took her 30 minutes to open up. First of all, she asked why I was disturbing her sleep by banging on her door like that, am I paying house rent for her ?

I called her to please come and tell me what my children did to her that she flogged them this way, she asked" why did I not ask my children, why did I knock to ask her this silly question". She turned her back to walk out on me but I quickly drew her by the shirt, dragged her outside and asked her to answer my question. What I saw was somebody who raised her hands and hit me on my shoulder.


To cut my story short, I left her dumb with beating and warned her that any day she messes with my children, she will sleep in the police cell. This happened around 4pm. By 6 pm, I heard a knock on the door and saw police people, she called police for me. I locked the door on them and called my husband. He came back home and after explaining what happened to him. He asked me why I took laws into my hands to beat up the lady, can't I wait for him to come home first?

The lady's husband lives abroad and the man left last week because he got home recently and stayed 2 months. She stays with her sister inlaw and the lady never supported the ill treatment she gave my kids. My husband later settled the police and they left. All I hear everyday is that he's disappointed at me by fighting in public, that it's shameful to have the wife of a manger fighting.

Please advise me and tell me the truth. Did I do anything wrong to her by standing up to my children?
