There is this issue bothering me since.
The landlord of my shop wants to befriend me. It came to me as a surprise. I am no longer a young girl and nothing in my imagination suggests that he should even think of that. This is someone me and my kids call daddy out of respect. He said if l agree, l will not pay shop rent again. He made this move sometimes 3 years ago and l turned him down. He stopped. I was happy.
He is a rich man and popular also. I am occupying a shop in one of his properties. Early last year he said his shops rent has been increased from 60k to 100k. He told me that he knows my condition and that's why he's allowing me to continue paying 60k. I was very grateful and thanked him. He said l should not tell other tenants and l did not tell anyone of them. I only told my first son who thanked him. I just took it that God is assisting me through that means. I have three children in the university, two to finish next year. Things have not been easy but l keep on pushing. He knows my situation because l have been his tenant for over 10 years.
Shortly after, he started again telling me about friendship. I refused and he said l should pay 100k like others but then l had already paid in the 60k for last year so he couldn't do anything again.
This year again he said he wants to use my own shop for office. I called people who l know to beg him and with a lot of pleading he accepted. I have applied for 100k loan and am in the waiting list when he called me and said l should pay 150k. People l called again inquired, and he said my shop is the most strategic and if l can't pay, l should vacate. They keep asking me if there is more to it and l said no. I never told them about his advances at me.
My rent expires on 30th of April. Apart from that, the hatred is much. He talks to me anyhow not minding my age. I went to plead with another friend last week and he didn't allow us in. People are advising me to get lawyer but looking at myself which muscle do l have both social muscle and financial to fight this man. He is an indigene and l am not, he owns the shop. That shop is the only source of livelihood for my family for now and leaving for another shop will be starting in a new environment afresh and will cost much. People have known me very well here and anything that will disturb my business will affect us especially the children in school.. If this is to be next year l will boldly tell him to go to hell because my two children would be graduating God willing and the load will be less but l am being careful with my response to him because I am afraid of the consequences. This is a man just a few years older than me, just that he was fortunate.
How can l handle this situation. Has anyone found herself in this kind of situation. A friend said l should tell him l have HIV virus so that he will be scared and leave me alone but what if he believes me and starts telling people that l have HIV?
I have not told my children about his advances at me mainly because my first son will go directly to him and confront him not minding the outcome but that is not what the family situation needs now. I need your prayers of intercession. April is fast approaching and my heart is skiping. Let this cup pass by.

If I may ask why will people suggest you take him to court over his property, that's insane. Anyways take it to God in prayer, if he dosen't bulge then You have no choice but to vacate. Be positive maybe that's a way God wants to uplift you. Sometimes God uses ur predicament to bless you. Goodluck
ReplyDeleteOK this is exactly why I hate been at the mercy of a person, he is taking advantage of your situation, if you were comfortable, trust me he wouldn't even try half of this nonsense... The only thing I have to say is that whether you move out to another shop or not, please try as much as possible to hide yourself, I mean do not let people look at you and know what you are going through, a lot will only take advantage of that and use you, as for the landlord, I honestly don't know what to say, try and beg him or if you Wanna date him, make sure you give him options too, he has to pay your bills, children's fee, house rent, money to stock your shop, feeding and he must buy you a car, I'm sure that if you put this on the table for him, he might run..

ReplyDelete1. Look for a shop nearby if possible
2. Pay him 100K and told him that it is not allowed by law to increase by over 150% of the rent or that you will tell the whole tenants who how he has been pestering you since 3 years and expose him to the whole world
3. Quietly accept his advances but make a big request that he takes overpaying your children's school fees and you will not be paying rent at all. because paying and servicing him sexually cannot work. He should choose one. Wishing you good luck. I repeat, MAKE YOURSELF 10x expensive and you will see him, from changing your wardrobe to living and shopping rentfree. He should be paying your house rent too, etc. etc.
There is no problem the lord allows to come your way without providing a solution to it, dear please be strong and resist his useless advances.

Our God is a God who saves, He will provide an escape route.
Don't tell him u have any disease. Don't attract sickness to yourself because of a he-goat who can't keep his trouser zipped. Pray to God for assistance. As far as you are not dancing to his and still under his roofs, it is not going to be easy for u. Stand your grounds. Do not succumb to his stupid advances. If u do, u will regret it because that's when you will see the other side of him. I still believe in what God can do. Trust God.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion any place you are doing business and you can't afford to pay rent of 150k yearly, you shouldn't be there in the first place. This means that you are not making up to 50k profit monthly there. Any business in a progressive place should be giving you up to 50k monthly and you can afford to save 20k as rent from the profit. If it doesn't, you shouldn't be in that site at all. You should convert that begging to seeking for a new place.
Madam poster, your courage is admirable, however, there comes a time when courage wouldn't or doesn't solve your problems. Now, gathering evidence as to his advances is not a crime in itself as long as it is not a rape or sexual abuse.
ReplyDeleteAs a landlord, he has the right to increase his rent and he has told you the reasons why he would increase and it is not only your shop that he's increasing but all.
My advise would be to quietly look for another place and move. In real estate LOCATION is paramount so is in a business and since your business is known to a lot people or clients because of the location, it gives him more leverage to demand for more rent from you and others. Plead with him to give you time to look for another place. I don't think any reasonable lawyer will advise you to fight just for the simple fact that he is making or made advances to you. If you get another place, negotiate for three or five years lease to lock the rent for that period instead of yearly increment.
