TUESDAY DECEMBER 18TH 2018 UPDATE ON GANGAA
In the morning of the next day, Ganga wakes up and thinks Babu must be on his way, I am not late. Pishi Ma asks her why she woke up so early. Ganga replies that she has to get ready and Sudha enquires about Ganga from Pishi Ma and Pishi Ma said you were right, Ganga may not have slept at all.
Ganga is waiting for Babu. She hears the honk of a car. She excitedly goes out thinking that it will be Babu but it turns out to be Amma ji and Mehri. Ganga asks her about Babu. Sudha and Pishi Ma greet her. Pishi Ma takes Amma ji inside. Sudha too tells her about Ganga’s excitement. She woke up early morning and got ready. She is so excited to go back to her house. Amma ji holds out her hand.
That house is not hers. She clears it to Ganga that that house is neither hers nor her Babu’s. I am still the owner of that house. You think your Babu will make all the decisions? As the owner I will decide who should and who should not stay in that house. It is my decision that this girl will not even step inside my house! The cloth falls from Ganga’s hand. Everyone is taken aback by Amma ji’s decision. Amma ji requests Ganga to free her and her family. Get out of our lives! I will be grateful to God if that happens. She folds her hands before Ganga. A tearful Ganga quietly looks at her as she gets up to go.
Amma ji adds that if she will still come to her house like a beggar after hearing all this then understand that there is no one as selfish and shameless like you! Ganga sadly looks at her hands. All the ladies feel bad for her. Ganga runs inside. Sudha picks her bag and follows her inside. Sagar and Niru are leaving for the ashram. Madhvi and Maharaj ji are very happy to see him happy. Amma ji asks them where they are going. She tells him that it is of no use to go to ashram. She wont come here. Niru talks about his promise. Amma ji questions Madhvi. Don’t you talk to your husband? Today is Shrad. She cannot come today.
Niru talks about his promise but Amma ji refuses to break the rituals that she has been following. Sagar is a kid but you are grown up. Niru cannot understand why she is talking about auspicious and inauspicious when it comes to Ganga. Madhvi suggests him to drop the matter for now. I will talk to Amma ji. Sagar again insists upon going but Madhvi tells him not to act stubborn. Sagar questions his Dadi as to why is she doing it. Ganga will be waiting. What is the problem if she comes? Amma ji stays put. She cannot come. He angrily takes the Prasad from her. I will not eat anything or drink milk till she is back. He heads to his room. Amma ji tells Madhvi that he will not stay hungry for long. Don’t support him in his childishness.
Anyone can say anything but I wont let her come back in my house! Madhvi is worried as Sagar has not eaten anything. It is evening. Maharaj ji takes juice for him but Sagar refuses to take anything. Tell Dadi that I don’t want anything. Amma ji says Sagar is hungry and so am I. We have to be strict with kids a little or they get used to making their own rules. I am doing it all for my family and their happiness. I don’t enjoy hurting others. Madhvi looks at Sagar.
At night, Madhvi tries to feed Sagar but he refuses to budge from his decision. I wont even take medicine. Amma ji looks on. Madhvi requests her to let Ganga come back. Sagar has to take medicine as well. I cannot see him like this. His health might worsen. Amma ji denies. It is pointless to change my decision.
Madhvi says I have been accepting your every wish till now but today it is about my son. She promises Sagar that it is late today but they will go to bring Ganga back tomorrow morning. Sagar’s face lights up. He finally eats something. Amma ji feels helpless too. You don’t realise that he stopped eating food for that Ganga today. What will he do tomorrow? He might leave us only. You will regret it. Ganga’s return will only invite destruction for our house.
Ganga thinks of how Amma j has been against letting her stay in Chaturvedi House since beginning. She unpacks her clothes. She looks at her palms. She keeps her saree back in her potli but Amma ji’s words keep echoing in her head.
She looks out of the window. She thinks of Sagar telling her that she will always stay with him. Will I never see Sagar again? Will I be never able to meet Babu, Sagar, Bahu ji, Pulkit Bhaiya ever again? Amma ji’s taunts haunt her. Why did Amma ji say so? Would it mean I have no shame? I am not like that. I will have to do something.
Sagar is happy as he will be going to bring Ganga tomorrow. We will all live together then. Next day, Sudha tells Sagar that Ganga left in a rush. She said that she will go to some other ghaat to take bath. She should have been back by now. Sagar cannot waste time. I will find her on the way and take her with me. He rushes out. Sudha thinks of Amma ji’s words.
Amma ji is on her way to the snan. The same dog (Moti) is in her way. She thinks of the last time when Ganga had helped her. Ganga comes there just then. He knows you now. He is wagging his tail. Amma ji asks her to shoo him away. Ganga does so. Moti goes away. Amma ji asks her what is she doing here. You thought you will request me and come with me? This cannot happen. Sagar looks on from a distance.
Ganga denies. I just came to meet you. you were right. That house is yours. You did not like it when Babu brought me home first time. You opposed him but had to give up. The same will happen today. I don’t want Babu and you to fight. I don’t like it. You don’t want me to come to your house. I will now come to your house only when you will come to take me with you!
Sagar is worried that his grandmother will never easily agree to Gangaa's terms. He wonders why Gangaa is acting so arrogant. Ganga challenges Amma and this worries Sagar all the more. He asks himself as to why did Gangaa have to say all this as Amma is already upset with her. Sagar tells himself that he wont be able to do anything now. He says he doesn't know whether if Gangaa will come back ever again or not. Amma tells Ganga’ that her ego will take her down one day. She also tells her that she cannot come to her house till she is alive. She shouts at Gangaa to go back into the ashram and for her to spend the rest of her life there. Sagar interrupts them. He asks Gangaa to come with him as his father has sent him. Ganga refuses to go with him. Amma repeats her words and says that Gangaa will never step inside her house neither today or ever. She angrily walks away.
Sagar reprimands Ganga for doing what she did. Ganga tells Sagar that he always misunderstands her and he calls her arrogant again. She tells him that she came to fulfil her promise. She points out that she was not being arrogant and that he (Sagar) should think what he wants to but she will only come home when Amma will come to fetch her from the ashram. She leaves. Sagar shouts after her. He tells Gangaa that she doesn't have to come back and that he will live without her. In the ashram, Ganga justifies her act. She says that her father used to say that one should live with self-respect and not live on anyone’s pity. Sudha tells her that Amma will never come to take her. Pishima says the world does not even look at widows. Ganga explains that she is still alive and she will live only with respect. Sudha thinks that these big words will take her down one day. Mamta says Gangaa will understand with time but Sudha denies. She says that she will have to be stricter than before so she realises things fast. Sudha adds that Gangaa is a widow. She has to accept it if she has to live with them. She says that she want Gangaa to go back to the house. She adds that they all are dead but she (Gangaa) wants to live. Sudha says that she will not find it here with them but in the Chaturvedi family. She says that she will have to be very strict with her for that very same reason and that she will have to show her the worst form of their life so she gives up on her arrogance and apologizes to Amma.
Amma notices a girl wearing modern clothes. She rushes towards a guy. Amma mistakes it that she was looking at her. She drops the puja plate from her hands by mistake. The girl lounges at the guy and threatens him to behave with girls the next time. Amma mutters that the girl is stupid and she does not even know how to talk to others. The girl tries to help Amma but she pushes her hand away. The girl is surprised at this gesture. Amma advises her to act like a well mannered girl and that this will suit her. The girl questions her if this was written in some book and asks Amma if she did not notice how the kid was behaving? Amma walks away muttering to herself. The girl thinks of Amma as an angry old woman and that she must be lecturing all the girls in her house day and night. The strange girl seems to have lost an address. Madhvi gets to know that Ganga has refused to come home. Niru justifies Ganga’s stance. He says that Ganga knows that she doesn't like it that she lives her and that no person with self-respect will like it ever. Amma calls her arrogant and ill mannered. Niru replies that she too is arrogant and that she made a very big mistake by stopping her from coming home. He asks his mother to rectify it by bringing Gangaa home. Amma asks him if he wants her to apologise to the little girl and asks Niru if this was how he respected her? Madhvi tries to control them but in vain. Niru tries to make her mother understand but she thinks that Niru will always take Ganga’s side.
Amma tells Niru that she also has a right to voice out her opinion. She says that Gangaa will not come back here in their house ever again and no one will talk about her. Sagar seconds Amma. He tells everyone that Ganga is not his friend. He further added that he had gone to bring her but Gangaa doesn’t want to come back. He asks why they should force her? Sagar says that he has decided not to think of her or to talk to her. Madhvi tries to make him understand but Amma shushes her from taking Ganga’s side. Amma says that finally Sagar can see things clearly and that Madhvi shouldn't feed him nonsense. Niru reasons that Sagar should understand the difference between right and wrong. Amma cuts him off. She says that Sagar is right and that both of them are blinded by your love for that girl. Niru walks out of the house in a huff. Niru forgets to take his lunch box. Amma asks Maharaj to take it to court. Amma goes to her room to bring money to give to Sagar. Meanwhile, Sagar tries to ask why he is saying so. Sagar tells himself that he will have to forget Gangaa since she does not want to come back. He leaves. Sudha stops Ganga from going to school. She tells Gangaa that she will come with them to ask for alms in the afternoon as this is her only way to survive if she want to live in the ashram. Ganga refuses to beg or eat alms but Sudha stays put. She tells her that she is a widow and will have to follow their rules if she have to live with them. She tells Gangaa that she will have to listen to her but Ganga declines Gangaa tells Sudha that she is wrong and that she is not like her as she is different. She says that will not live like they all do and that she will live off nicely. Mamta questions her. She asks Gangaa if she is scared to see them begging for alms. She tells her that she do not have such a strong will power and asks how will she spend her life if she doesn't beg for alms. Pishima too says the same thing. Ganga takes her bag and leaves. Sudha shouts after her that she will have to come with them and Gangaa will have to do what she is telling her. Sudha shouts that she will drag Gangaa with her. Pishima asks Sudha if they are not being a little too strict with Ganga but Sudha denies. She further says that if Gangaa has made up her mind to live with them then she will have to bear this in future or else she can apologize to Amma and go back as no one will stop her.
Amma gives instructions to Maharaj and Mehri about the upcoming veneration. Sagar thinks of Ganga. He says that she is also a lady and she too will have to do the prayers. Sagar then asks himself as to why should he worry for her when she isn’t staying with them anymore? He goes to freshen up. Amma tells Madhvi that no one should eat outside food in Shrad-paksh and that even guests should not come in such times but Prabha walks inside the house anytime. The guests bring Pitr-dosh. The girl walks inside Chaturvedi house asking for Niru. Amma is irked to see her but Madhvi recognizes her. Madhvi runs to give her sister a hug. Madhvi’s sister goes quiet upon seeing Amma there. Madhvi introduces them to each other. She says the lady was her cousin sister named "Barkha". Barkha apologizes to Amma for misbehaving towards her in the morning. She politely asks Mehri to keep her bag inside. Amma looks at Madhvi and asks if she was going to stay with them? Madhvi nods. Barkha asks for food. Mehri tells Amma that the bag is very heavy. Amma deduces that maybe Barkha came to live with them for too long. She asks herself till when will the problem stay unsolved in her house.
Sudha insists upon Ganga to accompany her. Ganga clearly tells her that she is not a coward. She comes there holding a potli, all set to go with Sudha and the other ladies. She tells them that she is not even scared of hard
work and that they don’t even have to drag her forcefully. Gangaa says that her father used to say that one needs a lot of strength to live with respect and for one to have that much willpower, she doesn't fear anything. She tells them to come along. Sudha taunts her. She tells her to find out how hard they have to work to arrange the food that she so arrogantly decline to eat. Mamta talks highly of a man. She tells everyone that the man always gives something or the other to widows and that they never return empty handed from his house. Sudha warns Ganga not to create any drama there. And that she shouldn't even utter anything wrong too. The man asks Ganga to spread her cloth so he can give her fruits and other stuff. Ganga replies that she has not come there to beg and that why should she do it then? All the ladies get tensed. Ganga says that she doesn't need alms. The man questions Ganga why she has come to his house then. The man tells Gangaa that God took her husband and that he pity her. The man look at her and says that Gangaa is an arrogant girl and that none of them should come to his house from tomorrow. Sudha says sorry to him but he dismisses them. Sudha scolds Ganga for replying rudely to the man. Ganga can still not understand why they all have to beg in order to eat. Gangaa suggest to the other widows that they should do some work an that they can get money and then buy stuff for themselves. She tells the widows that it is wrong to beg. Sudha agrees to do things as per Gangaa's wish for today.

Barkha sits outside as she relishes the food cooked by Madhvi. Her studies of medical are over. She is waiting for her degree. Madhvi tries to take her inside when Amma comes there. Barkha offers her halwa. She tells Amma that she need sweets. Amma advises Madhvi to make her sister understand the rules of their house. Barkha again addresses Amma as "aunty" but Amma wants her to call her Amma only. Barkha finds it boring. She tells Amma that she will call her Ams. Mehri thinks that Amma will scold her now. Amma insists upon following the rules but Barkha points out that rules are made to be broken. Maharaj is also scared as no one has spoke to Amma like this. She goes to take more halwa. Amma sends Maharaj in the kitchen to help Barkha. Madhvi apologises to Amma on her sister’s behalf as she has never lived this way. Madhvi assures Amma that she will teach her everything. Amma makes it clear to her that everyone has to abide by the rules of their house and that no one can break them. She says that one girl went and now another one is here to trouble her.

The lady turns to go when Ganga holds her feet. The lady looks at her in shock / anger. Gangaa tells the lady that it is wrong to beg and asks why she told Sudha to do so? She asks the lady why don’t she give her work when she has asked for it? Gangaa tells the woman that Sudha is talking so sweetly while she was so rude. The lady asks Ganga to leave her. She furiously tells Gangaa that she will have to purify everything now. She summons her servants and says that she will have to take a bath again. She tells Gangaa that this is the sin of her last birth’s karma that she becomes a widow in such a young age. She angrily asks Gangaa to go away. She leaves. Sudha asks Ganga if she is satisfied now or not. Ganga retorts that they didn't become widows as per their wish and that she didn't do anything wrong. Sudha says this is what she was trying to make her understand. She asks Gangaa when will she ever accept the truth of her life? Sudha tells Gangaa that this is the way the society treats widows. Mamta asks for work from someone but the man makes his servant push them away. All the people close their doors on the faces of the widows when they ask for work.
Sagar thinks of Amma's words and asks if Ganga will also do the puja as she is also a widow. Yash comes to invite him to play. Sagar wonders if Ganga went to school today or not as Sudha is very strict. He runs to the ashram. He peeks in from a distance. The door of the ashram is closed from inside. He looks at the ball that he is holding. He aims it towards the door. It reaches Pishima. He goes to pick it. Pishima knows that Sagar has come to meet Ganga but he denies. He tells her that they were playing cricket when the ball came there. He also mentions that Ganga will anyways be in school by now. Sagar gets to know that Ganga has gone to beg and he runs from there.
Ganga still does not want to beg. Sudha reasons that no one is giving them work even after begging everyone. Mamta adds that they have to collect as much alms as they can today. Ganga corrects her that it is begging. Sudha makes Ganga sit on the stairs. She says that they have been insulted enough today because of Gangaa. They all move ahead.
