The impetus of every leader should be driven by the maximum support they receive from those they lead. It is often considered as arrogance when leadership strives on the ignorance of the people rather than on their self-conscious will to continue to support such leadership. The case of Africa is in dire need of rescue as leadership is often characterized by “say much and do nothing.” Nigeria which is the centre focus of Africa is not lagging behind in this situation of “leadership by words and not by actions”
Over the years, the good people of Anambra South senatorial zone have witnessed the gains of bad leadership due to the selfish representation of the people by successive leaders, especially at the federal level. All the people could show for their hard work and struggles of campaigning, queuing up in sunshine, and rain and casting their votes expectantly waiting for the fulfilment of campaign promises by past leaders, is seen in the bad roads, poor educational infrastructures, no medical welfare services, and general deplorable state of living.
This sad tale still continues unabated and all hopes would have been lost but for the timely intervention of Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah (Ebube Chukwuzo Nnewi) who has opened a shade of hope for the people because of his philanthropic endeavours. In truth, what he has achieved for his people outside of politics is in no measure comparable to what those in the helm of the people’s affairs have done even with the wheels of political power at their grasp.
Ifeanyi Ubah is driven by the passion to transform the lives of his people and his state by replicating the wonders of Dubai, a place he has so much respect for. He believes it is possible to transform Anambra to a tourist nation where the world would troop in to cash in on the beautiful opportunities that may abound. First, he started off by providing basic facilities like tarring the streets where he lives and those around his residence, powering the neighborhood just as he once did in Lagos where he resided, and painting the walls of his neighbours to give a facelift to the environment. Basic amenities like electricity is something Ebube Chukwuzo doesn’t allow his people to suffer from.
In line with his vision for his people, he decided to build a world class ultra-modern stadium in other for them and the entire state to enjoy the benefits sports, especially football brings. Apart from establishing the FC Ifeanyi Ubah football club in other to give direction and empowerment to the youths, he has continually provided sports scholarship to the youths because he strongly believes that a society with an empowered youth is a society that is empowered to develop.
Just few days, he repeated his many rituals of empowerment as some 11 persons were selected to travel out to China this October for an all-expense paid trip in order to acquire economic and scientific knowledge that can be useful to them and their communities. This is a regular kind gesture of "AfaIgboEfuna Chief Promoter"
Due to his strong Christian upbringing, his respect for God is so ingrain that he chose the title “Ebubechukwuzo” which means “to put God first.” Because God should come first, Dr. Ubah saw the transport problems of the Bishop of his hometown and singlehandedly decided to provide 12 to the 12 bishops of various denominations in the state in order to help them in evangelism. As if this is not enough, Ifeanyi Ubah decided to build a cathedral for his hometown, a project which is near completion in order to provide a befitting place of worship for his people. He also donated immensely to the St. Fath Cathedral Awka and St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, Otolo-Nnewi. God is still first in his life and he continues to live up to this slogan.
His Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation has been instrumental to the empowerment of the young and old alike both in his hometown, state and the nation at large. His desire to ameliorate the plights of the people was witnessed in the near past when petroleum marketers decided to hoard petroleum products in other to make excessive gains at the expense of the people. As the Chairman of Capital oil and Gas, Dr. Ubah gave a standing directive that his storage be open up so that his people can be saved from the dangers of fuel scarcity that threatings to undermine their businesses.
During the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah was in a position where all the ministers of the country were answerable to him. Yet, he was never found wanting of compromise or misusing his position to embezzle public funds or scar his reputations. He remains humble even to a fault.
Here is a man whose goal is to pursue the economic recovery of Ndigbos from the long economic oppressions they have been placed under by successive government at the centre. Ubah who is from Nnewi, a town renowned to be a commercial hub of Nigeria, knows how to do business and succeed. He wants to represent his people in a business-like manner and he is always known to succeed. So the good people of Anambra South are lucky to have a man who wants to fight their cause and bring justice home for their economic development.
Some few elements that represent the forces of backwardness and retrogression are fighting tooth and nail to deter Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah from achieving this dream for his people by condescending to blackmail and cheap political propaganda. Fortunately, Dr. Ubah is a man whose eyes are on the ball. He is never distracted because he is an issue-based politician who knows how to deliver the dividends of democracy to his people.
The good people of Anambra south must know that if a man can do so much for them without holding any political office, he can definitely transform their constituency and state with political power beside him. To whom much is given, much is expected. Ifeanyi Ubah has not been given much yet he has acted beyond our expectations. He deserves to be our own voice at the centre. We all should give unlimited support to Ebubechukwuzo Nnewi as he works towards representing Anambra South in the senate come 2019.
