Miss Nkechi Igwetu Tragedy: A Life Cut short – families in pain, Ukpor in Shock

The gruesome murder of  of Miss Nkechi Igwetu on July  4th,  2018, by the trigger happy men of the Nigerian Police  tell yet another horrific  story of life taken too soon, and in gut-wrenching circumstances.

Miss Linda Nkechi Igwetu - a native of Umudike, Ukpor in Nnewi South local government area of Anambra state; a serving Corp member doing her primary assignment at Mabushi Area of Abuja was to conclude her NYSC program the next day.

However, the report available to the Union has it that

"She finished at work late at about 11p.m. and joined a few friends to a hang out before their passing out parade, POP, scheduled for Thursday (yesterday). “They left for home at about 3a.m. and was shot at shortly after the checkpoint, immediately after Ceddi Plaza by a Police officer identified as Peters. “The bullet hit Linda on her side, by the midriff and she began losing blood in the open roof vehicle. “She was rushed to the Garki Hospital, but they wouldn’t treat her until they see a Police report despite the fact that the Police officers were present. While the deliberation was ongoing, Linda bled to death"

The inexcusable actions of both the Nigerian Police Force-NPF and Garki Hospital that took the life of Corp member -Nkechi Igwetu has devastated the  entire nation thrown into mourning for yet another loss of its citizenry, this time, not in the hands of the the dreaded Boko Haram or raging Fulani herdsmen, but under the hands of the Nigerian Police force -an agency of the federal government established to protect lives and properties. Their action has  brought  sorrow to the family of the igwetus in Umudike village Ukpor, the Ukpor  community, and the entire Anambra state.

The Ukpor Improvement Union in clear terms condemns the gruesome murder of a responsible, conscitious young lady who had her whole future by police while berating  the Garki Hospital for its callousness and negligence of duty that led to her bled to death.

She was just 23, a time that she was about the go and chase all her dreams.

Meanwhile,  the Union, through its Abuja branch has religiously followed the case and has been actively involved in all the processes of getting justice for the late Miss Nkechi.

May we  acknowledge in a special way the efforts of the Union branch chairman, Mr. Paul Onwuzuluike, Law Onuchukwu, etc for their untiring efforts and contributions in seeking justice for the late Nkechi.

Moreso, we  commend the Nigerian Police Force-NPF for not living in denial but taking responsibility for the avoidable death of Miss Nkechi by not only cooperating with the Union and other interested parties, but also dismissing outrightly the killer cop.

The National Assembly, civil society organisations and others who took special interest in this case and had made irreparable contributions towards the cause of justice are well appreciated by the Union.

The Union shall continue to support its Abuja branch in all her efforts to further  get justice for the family of Late Miss Nkechi Igwetu.

We offer our condolences to her  parents  and the entire Igwetu family, her larger family and ethe NYSC members  with whom she served.

As we prepare to bury this promising lady, who had a her full life ahead of her  on the 28th of July, 2018, pray that her soul find eternal rest on the Lord bossom while we  pray God  to prevent such a tragic event from occurring in the future.
