On Wednesday 23rd May 2018, APGA stalwarts and statutory delegates from the 7 Local Government Areas that make up Anambra South Senatorial Zone gathered at the popular Ortom Palace Hotels to witnessed the formal declaration of Hon. Barr. Ikenna Mbazulike Amachi, who hopes to represent the zone at the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, come 2019.
On the occasion, the state Vice Chairman of APGA in charge of Anambra state, Chief Titus Anagbogu, decried the inaccessibility of the current senator representing the zone, saying that “with the caliber of people jostling for the ticket of APGA, the party is set to dislodge the current occupant of that seat.
Chief Anagbogu used the occasion to eulogize the governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano for taking the bull by the horn, to host the just concluded Igbo summit on restructuring which that made far-reaching recommendations, which other governors of South East were afraid to do; stressing that the party has once more shown the light for others to follow.
He therefore called on party stakeholders and delegates from the zone to select the brightest candidate that can represent the zone at the Senate, who he said must be ready to advance the decisions of the Igbo summit, at the floor of the senate.
In his declaration speech entitled, “THE BRIGHTEST FOR THE SENATE”, Hon(Barr.) Ikenna Mbazulike Amechi urged party leaders and delegates not to be swayed by mere political grandstanding and percuniary interests, but to select the brightest among the aspirants that would come forward for the party’s nomination.
Hon. Mbazulike-Amechi said “among those eying the Anambra South seat, I am the brightest of them all”.
The former State lawmaker took time to enumerate his enduring achievements as a member of Anambra State House of Assembly from 2007-2011, stressing that the Nigerian senate would be enriched with his vibrancy, intellectual capacity and wealth of experience, if elected.
The vanue of the declaration which was filled to capacity, was agog when the aspirant told the crowd how he strengthened the State Budget Process to ensure probity and accountability in the management of the state resources, during his time as the House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation. Hon. Amechi further disclosed that he proposed and ensured the passage of "Awka Capital Development Law", that has led to proper planning and development of the State capital. In addition to this, he drafted and passed the bill for the establishment of Anambra State Bureau of Statistics, to ensure that the state has a well-defined system of keeping Records and statical data, for sustainable planning and development.
He reminded the party leaders how he donated his office and vehicles to be used for the governorship campaign in 2013, which led to the resounding victory APGA recorded in Nnewi South and the subsequent election of Chief Willie Obiano as governor for the first term in office.
This feet he also repeated in 2017 election when he led the Contact and Mobilization Committee in the Willie Obiano Campaign Organization. According to him, “my vision is to help grow APGA to the level that the party can win election in other states of the federation".
The senatorial hopeful promised to run an issue-based campaign and challenged other aspirants in the party to a political debate, in order to enable the party leaders and delegates to ascertain the intellectual capacity of those wishing to fly the party’s flag, in the next general election.
In his words, "I ask for your support, not because am the Richest, not because am the Strongest, but because I am the Brightest of all the aspirants that APGA can put forward in order to take over the senatorial seat".
Hon. Ikenna Amechi who holds a Masters Degree in law(LLM), with over 25years experience in legal practice both in Nigeria and in the U.S.A, was accompanied to the declaration by a long list of political heavy weights, business moguls and Power-brokers from Anambra south zone and beyond, including-
Chief Gilbert Okwudili Igweka an Oil Magnate and Industrialist; Chief Peter Ezike of Mac-Peter Oil and Gas Services, Chief Goddy Anene CEO AG Butler Nig LTD, Chief Chidi Okonkwo CEO CHID Marine Services, Chief Chibueze Igwe of Josef Terez Publishers; Mr Odili Ujubuonu CEO of Brande Aristotle and the guy that coined the slogan "Nke a bu nke anyi" during the last gubernatorial campaigns. Former and Serving house members like Hon Kingsley Iruba, Hon Uche Ogbonna and one of the founders of the party, Chief Jimmie Asoegwu amongst others.
