I had doubted the sincerity of Chief Omenuko as he traversed the length and breadth of our town begging to be voted in as the town union chairman.
He promised to bring a transformational change to the town at a time when the man occupying the seat seemed not too charismatic.
Chief Omenuko won the election and was sworn in.
It has been over two years and half since Chief Omenuko and his executive committee took over the leadership of our town and citizens are yet to feel the impact of the change they promised.
Those who were skeptical to the ability and the sincerity of Chief Omenuko to deliver on his campaign promises are now beginning to be proven right but not as much as expected.
With the aid of his propaganda machinery, people have started forgetting what they were promised. They are beginning to hold God responsible for the change Chief Omenuko promised.
The hapless citizens of Ananro has continued to be hopeful that Chief Omenuko would be changed to enable bring change until one day.
That day, Chief Omenuko had invited his townsmen to birthday party.
Chief hOmenuko had engaged four indigenous caterers. On the offer were all the local delicacies.
Just as food and drinks were being served to hungry crowd, some observant citizens noticed the arrival of McDonald’s delivery van.
A neatly dressed lady in the colours of McDonald’s started serving Chief Omenuko and the members of the high table the McDonald’s delicacies and foreign wines.
Many of the citizens didn’t even notice that Chief Omenuko and his executive didn’t eat same food they prepared for citizens they govern neither did they drink the locally produced beverages.
Chief Omenuko and his executive did not trust the quality of local products.
While McDonald’s was paid instantly via POS, none of the local caterers have been paid.
At all levels of governance in Ananro or Nigeria, the people who make policies on Education and Health neither allow their children to consume the kind of education they produce nor patronize our local hospitals.
Funny enough, the same citizens being condemned to use local products and services would still pay for the foreign consumption of their rulers.
How can someone cook food for her guests, encourage them to eat and at the same time selfishly or shamelessly order same food from another kitchen or eatery?
From any angle you look at our country, you must laugh or be amused because, our beloved country is a very funny joke.
