Opinion On Anambra Guber: That Anambra May Be Free, By Aloysius Okeke

My fellow Anambrarians,

I'm sure by now you are getting set to hit the polling booth in exercise of your civic duties.

The other day former governor Chris Ngige stood on the podium at the APC flag off and told  a story of a time they had no father at the center.

He stood and boasted that this time around, they had a father and there was no way they could lose this election.

I'm sure you've had time to sample opinion from those who support this party and one common thing they always echo is the fact that they have "Federal might" in their corner.

The way they boast about this, they give the impression that no matter who you choose to support, their closeness to the center confers on them an advantage that far outweighs the collective strength of your votes.

Ordinarily this shouldn't give you room for concern but going by recent developments, it would be stupidity on your part to just vote your choice and go to sleep come Nov 18.

You were all alive when Edo state election was going the way of the PDP candidate but by some unfortunate degree of Naivety which saw returning officers agreeing to quit for the day to resume the next day, they unwittingly set the stage for the APC to turn the table and by the time they resumed, it was a different story!

You saw how they almost got away with it in Rivers state but for the tenacity of the people who never gave them a chance, it would have been a different story.

Today APC supporters are everywhere boasting and letting anyone who cares to listen that they are in charge.

Why am I telling you this?

You have to be vigilant for we are dealing with a people whose game plan is simply to steal this election and watch your preferred candidate roam from one court room to another seeking the elusive positive verdict.

Fellow Anambrarians, Ngige says they have a father but you have a God who has given you wisdom and commonsense to resist this evil that is coming.

And you'll resist it by not only voting but staying behind to ensure your votes are counted in your polling units...

You'll resist by ensuring that your phones are fully charged to record proceedings in all your polling units.

You'll resist it by ensuring the results travel safely and arrive safely in the various collating centers.

You'll resist by ensuring the votes and results already announced in your polling units are meticulously collated in the various collation centers...

You'll resist by not giving INEC an inch or allowing the officials involved to step out of that venue until the business of the day is completed even if it means spending eternity waiting.

You will resist by jealously guarding your votes for a thief only comes to steal and destroy dreams.

You will be at alert and promptly report any polling unit that has no representative...

You will upload pictures and videos online detailing events around your area.

Brothers & Sisters, this is one fight which you can't afford to go to sleep for it only takes a little slumber for Evil to achieve its aim.

We have seen the brazen way things went down in other elections and we must learn from the woes of others.

You will be peaceful but resist whatever plans the APC boasters in our midst have up their sleeves...

You have enjoyed relative peace these past few years under the Willie Obiano government and it would be taking us back to the years of the locust if we allow them steal our dream for better days ahead.

In the words of Prof Chukwuma Soludo, you do not mend what was never broken.

No sane man destroys a winning team to enthrone a unknown future piloted by political opportunists whose only allegiance is their pockets...

May God save us from those who believe their closeness to a so-called father is greater than our closeness to God Almighty Himself.

Come Nov 18, we shall stand with one voice and resist the onslaught of those who believe they have might coming from the center and with God on our side and vigilance on our part, we shall prevail to the glory of God!

Eternal vigilance is the price of victory!
