Anambra Central Senatorial Election: Appeal Court Resumes Hearing

The Appeal Court Abuja will tomorrow, October 12, resume hearing on the Anambra Central Senatorial election tussle between Chief Victor Umeh and PDP.

The Appeal Court had on June 12, 2017 adjourned to October 12, to commence the substantive hearing after the Supreme Court have the Appellate Court order to expedite hearing and conclude the case.

At the last hearing, UPP and MPPP were duly joined in the appeal against Umeh, APGA and INEC.

The appeal was instituted by INEC against the judgement of Justice Chikere which ordered the electoral body to include PDP in the March 5, 2016 court ordered rerun.

Chief Umeh, the APGA candidate was later joined in the appeal which PDP challenged at the Supreme Court.

Anambra Central is the only senatorial zone without a senator in this 8th Assembly.

Umeh is bent on contesting unopposed while PDP insists that it will field Peter Obi, the immediate past governor of Anambra State.

While the Appeal Court Abuja sits tomorrow to continue hearing on the INEC, APGA and Umeh vs PDP, UPP & MPPP, the APC has filed another appeal challenging the judgement of the federal high court Abuja which dismissed its suit compelling INEC to allow the party substitute its March 28, 2015 candidate, Dr Chris Ngige.
