How we killed Rev. Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo – Police Corporal, 5 others confess [More Details]

Six persons, including a police corporal have been arrested in connection with the death of Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Cyriacus Onunkwo of Orlu diocese.

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, confirmed the arrest of the suspects while speaking at the Government House in Owerri.
Onunkwo was kidnapped by gunmen, last week Friday, from his vehicle at Banana junction, Orlu town.

His body, according to the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Chris Ezike, was discovered the following day in a bush in Omuma Village, Oru East Local Government Area.

“The suspects are already making reasonable confession that can help police in further investigations,” he said.

One of the suspects told newsmen that Onunkwo was killed in error.

He claimed that the gang only kidnapped the priest for ransom but later discovered that he died while on transit to their hideout.

“When we kidnapped the priest, we used cello tape to seal his mouth, unknown to us, his nose was also sealed,” he said.

“When we discovered that he could no longer talk, we unsealed his mouth and found out that he has died.”
