Cameroon 1 Nigeria 1: The Three Laws Of Victory In Football

By Uche Obaji

There are three laws of victory in football; the first is take a lead, the second is kill the game and the third is control the tempo. For most part of this match, we obeyed the first and third laws but eventually got punished for ignoring the second law.

The penalty would have been inconsequential if we were half clinical in front of goalpost. We showed a lot of promises but failed to translate those efforts to goals. This isn't the kind of result that send bookmakers smiling to the banks, especially the bookies that counted  on our emphatic victory in Uyo on Friday.

The Super Eagles are still on the driving seat as we await the result of Algeria vs Zambia. A victory for Algeria would mean that we need only two points from the remaining two fixtures, which won't be a big ask from this crop of Eagles.

Victor Moses was excellent, so was Leon Balongun, Moses Simeon and the rest of the team. In fact, this is the first time in a long while that one could watch the Super Eagles with confidence that they would hold their heads up against their opponents. That alone is victory by football standard.
