OPINION: Martyrs Of Ozubulu And Matters Arising, By Tobenna Obiano.

I was born into the Catholic faith, to which I am eternally committed to. As a Christian, I'm proud of my Religion, while I also have deep rooted tolerance and respect to the believes and choices of other people from other faith, religion or background.

As a Catholic, aside having my parents as Knights of the church, I attended schools owned by the Catholic Church and I have been lucky to be tutored by vast readers, mentored by distinct personalities and I gave myself entirely into understanding the teachings of the church. As an independent, I may have reasons to ask questions when I think that I should, but till this day, I'm eternally committed to my faith and to Jesus Christ, the model for the Catholic institution.

Today, I took some time off, from my schedule to go before our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, to commit the town of Ozubulu and the very barbaric and sacrilegious occurrence of yesterday before God.

I particularly chose this Catholic Cathedral because I reliably gathered that nearly such a barbaric act has occurred there some years back. Two young men or so, had set the church ablaze, there were few casualties. When they were later arrested, they said that their spirits told them in their dreams to do so. I therefore decided that it would be wise to return to where a thing of this has occurred and meet God in prayers. Meanwhile, there is no more law of killing here, but they were sentenced to life imprisonment.

As Catholics, we take very seriously, miraculous intercession of our Most Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary. I used my finger Rosary and prayed the five joyful mystery on that intention. I asked the mother of God to intercede for us.

At the end of praying my Rosary, I looked up unto our Lord and told Him pointblank, "your Holy church has been desecrated. Blood of worshippers have been spilled right before your very eyes. Now, unbelievers laugh at us scornfully and with disdain, mocking us and asking, where is their God?" I told God not to put us to shame. I reminded Him that He has never failed His people and He won't begin just now. I asked Him to repose the souls of the worshippers who were martyred for what they believed in, their gathering to worship their Maker.

I chose to go and pray in the church because honestly, the sacrilege committed in Ozubulu touched me deeply. I decided that I can't just preach online without praying too. I left my intentions on the foot of the cross and left with faith. Miracle happens and the findings and revelations that will follow the Ozubulu aftereffect would be an eye-opener.

Also, I have read too many accounts, takes and comments from different sides about the church invasion. Most importantly, I want to address fellow Igbos, especially those who are at the center and quick to wash-off the hands of fellow Igbos of the deadly attack and are determined to put the blame upon those from the other side.

Now, I clearly understand them. I honestly do. Till this day, no one will ever believe that any Igbo would summon the courage to commit such sacrilege, worse still, inside the house of God.

This is because most Igbos are deeply religious and are majorly Catholics. It therefore should worry us so much and take some time for us to buy the story, but then, it's no movie, no lies, it's as true as the word itself.

But well, as sad as it may sound, it has happened and as much as we know for now, it was done or masterminded by fellow Igbos, maybe not aimed at shedding blood inside the Church, but circumstances led to that.

Now, been more practical, drug wars even as we see them in the movies is always horrific, no one can ever tell when it would end. You may only know that it has begun. It spills on endlessly until nearly the Government creeps in and get all those involved locked up or dusted off.

What happened in Ozubulu was one of its kind, the first and deadliest on the Igbo soil. It happened and from my own analysis, it is as true as it is alleged.

Cartels don't give a damn. They have got the money, they have got the power and they have got the connections. Did you hear that the war has been ongoing for nearly three years and in those years, between 6 or was it 16 persons majorly from that Ozubulu have been killed. Don't doubt this, trash happens.

Remember last year or so, there is this one called Ibu na Adazi, it was said that he was so powerful and I learnt, he was brutal as well. He was known to lead his ring of cartels as their major drug lord in some part of South Africa. When drug war creeped in, while his men targeted and gunned many down, in reprisal attack, his own men were gunned down too. It was said that various drug gangs including the South African police it was alleged conjoined together and got him down as well.

A lot of Igbos abroad are doing dirty deals. It's sad, but very true. At extreme circumstances, they kill themselves.

Lastly, there are many reasons why I won't buy the terrorist side of the story or the jihad thinking or the Fulani herdsmen invasion.

I tell you what, if it were to be any of those, they would spray bullets like holy water on worshippers. The death toll should have been in hundreds. They would have tried to capture the Priest and even behead him to prove their supremacy. They would have gone ahead to destroy Holy objects in the church and as well, gone ahead to burn down the church. But no, they had targets, they shot majorly those around same place.

Biafran apologists are quick to raise the tension and beat up the polity with their distortion of facts, half truths and lies in a bid, just to mop up sentiments and deceive many.

Take it to the bank, the enemy within is by far deadlier than the known and plainly labeled enemy outside. Internal wars are often horrific, whoever can should ask his or her South African contacts, you will be shocked!
