Pacta sunt servanda is latin for "agreements must be kept". Costa is about to find this out the hard way should he not cure his mumu in about ten days.
Costa is the most prolific striker to ever play for Chelsea. Yes! His returns/ratio is way higher than Drogba's. Plus he did not take time to become prolific unlike Drogba. Costa was on his way to the Chelsea Pantheon.
There is no club that rewards players like Chelsea. We have paid the most moneys to players for very long periods... at least before Man City and PSG. Arsenal players on equal skill levels earn half of what our players earn. Tottenham players money is pocket-change. Harry Kane is on 100. Costa is on 150 a week. Fifty thousand pounds more per week is not child's play. Use a calculator to know the difference in naira. And Harry Kane is English. IN Chelsea he would earn 300 easily.
Chelsea is the only club that allows players join rivals as reward for good service. Sturridge went to Liverpool. Peter Cech went Arsenal. Mata, and Matic to Man Utd etc. All of these had foreign clubs offering more for these players. Other clubs would not even sell to a rival who offers more.
Chelsea is the only club that cancels contracts as reward for players. Mikel had six months to go. Had his contract to China delayed, Mikel would not be earning 150 pounds a week. Ivanovic also benefitted from early release from contract as did Michael Essien. This early releases allows a player added bargaining power on salary as the club did not pay to buy them.
Now to Costa. Nobody seems to have taught Costa that a contract is a contract. Let us set aside his bad behaviour with Mourinho that had us miss last year's champions league. He pulled his shirt so it falls on Mourinho after he was substituted. With Conte, Costa comes to dressing room with BEER. But that is not the issue. In the middle of our season, Costa asked for a transfer. That is how he would have cost us the title last year. Who does that? What player asks for transfer mid-season?
Costa also refused to play a few matches till he was practically BEGGED by Conte.
To think that Costa had said he was leaving even before Conte took full charge and when Atletico refused to buy him he came back BEGGING to play (his own words) and then to turn and eff Chelsea up mid season is despicable. But again, that is besides the point, even though germane to the argument. I would have Costa's lawyers and advisors teach him the following;
1. His contract is with Chelsea FC and not Conte. Conte, like Costa are contracted to the club same way. Emenalo, Abramovic etc are the ones whose texts matter. Even then, they too cannot unilaterally end the contract by text or however means. Pacta Sunt Sevanda.
2. Chelsea is the rich one here. Ask Jules Bogarde (that Ajax black defender), Malouda etc. Chelsea will wind down your contract and they will not feel it.
3. Not returning to Chelsea will have him lose 150k pounds a week and still owe Chelsea after his contract expires end of next season. He breached it and Chelsea will get damages.
4. Next year is world cup year. Morata will own the Spanish striker shirt. Costa will watch on TV.
5. No club will buy Costa if he does not return to Chelsea. Virgil and Matic etc stay and stayed in training in club complex till their contract matter is resolved. Staying away from Cobhams is serious obvious provable breach pf contract.
6. You cannot tell Chelsea the club to sell you to. Chelsea will make the most profit, unless like Cech, Mata, Matic etc, you show humility and RESPECT for your employers.
7. Atletico is playing Chelsea in Champions league. So forget any cheap sale to... forget any sale at all to Atletico. It will not happen.
8. Athelico does not really want Costa.!They will not pay him 150k and honestly have failed to step up fully. Costa is about the best striker in world football. No top player is less than 50 million dollars in today's inflated market. Atleti is just not serious or believe Chelsea is desperate to recoup some money. NOT CHELSEA!
8. Behaviour is costing Costa. Liverpool needs him like air. Who is Firminho and Salako compared to him? Even Arsenal spent good money on Lacazette when Costa was available. Mourinho tapped him like Matic and Willian but never bade for him.
So YES, I love Costa. But he is being stupid right now. He has a few days to simmer down and THINK.
Chelsea will watch him rot and still get their money's worth or he will never kick football ever again for a professional side.
Plus, we all know he is not really the age he says
Plus, YOU CAN NEVER FIGHT WITH "THE MAN" (The oyibo oga) and win.
Plus, who else has seen how Drogba is like a King whenever he visits Chelsea? How can Diego Costa turn down a chance for goodness?
eff him! He better report to Chelsea sharply and iron out his differences and move to Milan or whomever.
Chelsea Chelsea!!!
