In Anambra and elsewhere, political victories can be hard fought. Compromise abounds, and hopeful candidates often find their expectations dashed by the realities of back-door deals, intrigues and the apparent necessity of giving up their original values for the sake of alleged ‘consensus' or being the 'chosen one'.
Sometimes, principle wins through with political ideals triumphing in celebrated contests that reshape dominant narratives and restore real possibilities for change.
This happened in 2013 when Dr Tony Nwoye, even with the Doctored Delegate list by his co Aspirants, got majority of the votes to claim undisputed victory in the famous battle for the flag bearer of the then Ruling Party- PDP.
Dr Tony Nwoye's humility, open access, grassroots reach and appeal, and his firm belief in the principles and tenets of open, free and fair political contest have whipped up a veritable storm in recent months as he endures a gauntlet of media hostility.
Dr Tony Nwoye stands for a multitude of progressive positions, from his pure activist background as a Student Leader, to his exemplary party leadership as a former State Party Chairman and his firm belief that real impact of level of activity by average citizens being a part of the political process need to be sustained and channeled towards electoral outcomes.
Unsurprisingly, a plethora of unfounded accusations from anti democratic elements and insecure politicians have been hurled at the 43 years old political veteran, all of which, ultimately, amounted to precious little as he is poised to sweep the contest with majority of votes come August 19.
While, some unrepentant TICKETERS, FlAG-BUYERS, open contest cowards and merchants of candidate imposition masquerading as new democratic converts have indulged in hysterical moves to bribe their way to imposition against the free will of the delegates and have made clandestine attempts at altering the party structure and doctoring delegate list has remained a hoax,
Dr. Nwoye has thus far maintained his constant communication with the electorates and 1 one can attest that he has lived to his promise of never to tamper with either the party structure or delegate list.
As outrageous as their wicked moves to remove loyal party delegates who have remained committed, truthful and endured enough suffering for APC in Anambra from the list have become these mandate kidnappers and Abuja hopeful ticket hijackers have met great resistance in the person of Dr Tony Nwoye and some other Aspirants that believe that every aspirant must test his might and wealth in the open field and the Delegates must not be denied of their rights and usurped of their powers to freely elect the party's flag bearer.
Moreso, one notorious flag buyer and primary election evasive politician has been suitably cowed by the huge outcry by the party members who now aware of his dubious antics and are outraged at the way things have turned out and have now vowed to vote with their feet.
We call the leadership of the party to ensure that the Delegates' list remain unharmed and to provide an open, free and fair playing ground for all the Aspirants to test their might and popularity.
Finally, it is important to note that Dr Tony Nwoye has remained very trustworthy and resolute in his firm belief that the electorates/delegates MUST be allowed to harness their grassroots capacity and use the opportunities of this election to exert their collective influence and effectiveness in determining who they give their mandate willingly.
APC Delegates and Ndi Anambra in general are called upon to be weary of the political Ameoba, Party flag-buyers and ticket hijackers that are hellbent in usurping their powers of free choice in a democratic setting.
