Why Manchester United Should Sign Lukaku

Man United have history of sanctioning ludicrous ransom for players that are not exceptionally talented and £100million tagged Romelu Lukaku perfectly fits that description.

Statistics are often overrated and they had been deployed to corner Man United in a deal that pushes €115million they paid for shockingly average Pogba. Lukaku scored 25 league goals last season but that didn't tell the whole story.

At the end of last season, Sky sport pundits analyzed how each goal scored by each player helped his team to where they finished in league table. They concluded that Costa's 20 goals worth 16 points, Kane's 29 goals worth 15 points and Lukaku's 25 goals worth 11 points. Of all the players that scored 20+ last season, Lukaku had most frivolous goal tally. How does that work?

When a team wins by 1:0, the player that scored that goal gets all the points. If a team wins 4:0, the person that scored the first goal gets all the points, 2:1 get one point to the first goalscorer and two points to the winner. A draw or loss earns no point despite the number of goals scored.

It's a very technical but efficient way of evaluating a player that's capable of scoring important goals that can translate to title. Alex Ferguson had sometimes complained that Berbatov does not score when the team needs him most.

Lukaku is another Berbatov in making. He could score four goals in a match, making up for a month without a goal. Isn't it troubling that he got 24 goals in early April but stuck there till the final day of the season. The challenge is that while Lukaku would score a good number of goals to justify his price tag, his club would struggle to garner title winning points.
