Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world – FG

The Federal Government, yesterday in Kano, said Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-school children, accounting for 10.5 million of 20 million redundant children across the globe.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who made the disclosure during the 62nd National Council on Education Meeting in Kano yesterday, said the figure were not only disheartening, but also totally unacceptable to the government.

Adamu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr Adamu Hussaini, said: “It is sad that Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world, which includes girl-child, Almajiri child, children of nomads, boy-child-drop out, area boys, children of migrant fishermen and farmers.”

Others are those living with disability and those displaced by insurgency.
