APGA Set To Reconcile With Chekwas Okorie

Plans are afoot by the new leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA under Ochoudo Martin Agbaso to reconcile with her estranged founder and pioneer national chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie in an effort to effectively and comprehensively reconcile, restructure and rebuild the party.

Speaking to SEE in Umuahia, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Prince Ukaegbu who was on his way to Ohafia in Abia State where he is billed to attend the Abia North zonal caucus meeting of APGA,  said  insincerity and the haphazard nature of past  reconciliatory efforts were the reason they fail. “ past leadership of the party had only paid lip services to the issue of reconciliation borne out of insincerity and mischief. For a proper reconciliation to take place the party must start from the beginning and the beginning of injustice in APGA started with the unjust treatment and insults meted out to the founder of APGA and our pioneer chairman,  Ojeozi Ndigbo,  Chief Chekwas Okorie.  For the party to move forward and return to her glorious past we must lay to rest the ghost of the past,  we must atone for the mistakes made by past leaders and make necessary propitiation. We cannot continue to paddle along in iniquity and unjust treatment of deserving sons and daughters of Igboland and Nigeria and hope to get equity and fairness along the road, the National Chairman,  Ochoudo Agbaso has decided to reconcile all and sundry,  including Ozo Victor Oye who is still fighting us’

It would be recalled that the All Progressives Grand Alliance was founded in the main by Chief Chekwas Okorie as her national chairman but in a strange twist of fate which hindsight shows was convoluted pushed out of the party in 2005. The party was to enter a long stretch of legal quagmire until Okorie threw in the towel and moved on to form the United Progressive Party, UPP.

Most dramatis personae involved in the Okorie putsch had reportedly made peace with him including the former governor of Anambra State,  Chief Peter Obi.
The wife of the former leader of APGA,  Iyom Bianca Ojukwu had in 2013 in the midst of the agitation to boot out the then national chairman,  Sir Victor Umeh described the allegations leveled against Okorie as nothing compared to Umeh's transgressions.

Today Okorie’s UPP boast in their fold the likes of the heir to Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu dynasty,  Emeka Ojukwu Jnr, the former APGA deputy national chairman,  South, Sir Chris Ejike Uche and Alhaj Sadiq Masalla, former APGA deputy national chairman North as UPP deputy national chairman South and national secretary respectively amongst others.

According to Ukaegbu,  APGA will also meet with the former governor of Anambra State,  Chief Peter Obi,  Dr. Tim Menakaya, Chief Regan Ufomba, Chief Chikwendu Udensi, Chief Sylvester Nwaobualor, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, Senator Chris Anyanwu, Chief Willy Ezugwu amongst others and will pay a posthumous visit to the family of late Okpuzu Onwuka Kalu, APGA Abia State gubernatorial candidate in 2003 and establish an award in memory of former acting national chairman,  late Ozo Nwabueze Okafor.
