Anambra Guber: Not A Single Robust Discussion,‎ Obiano Remains Candidate to Beat

As Written By Ezeani Elvis

The November, 2017 Anambra State Governorship election gathers momentum by each day and there's so much information in the public domain about the aspiration of some individuals.

In the midst of this so much information is actually very little or no clear description of the developmental models candidates who offer themselves as alternative to status or ideal replacements to Dr. Obiano plan to utilize in fulfilling their respective manifesto.

So far, the discuss has been nothing near captivating or interesting. The only general consensus that seems to exist among candidates is one which suggests that His Excellency, Dr. Willie Mmaduabuchukwu Obiano must be stopped from winning a second term by any means but no germane reason from other aspirants. This for me is a bit over the edge.

While there may be valid arguments which back this consensus, it is my view that a mere desire to stop an individual from acquiring political power for a second tenure is not enough reason to participate in a process to oust that individual from office.

There must be a ‎clear ambition to perform better than the controversial individual and this ambition must be clearly communicated to voters in form of clearly defined policy documents and manifestos.

This is where Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah may be doing Anambra people a great disservice by His tentative decision to be silent and watch our dear state run amok by people who ordinarily should be kept as far away as possible from government.

For now, only Osita Chidoka, Chike Obidigbo, Andy Uba, Elo Aforka, Goody Ezemo and ‎Willie Obiano are frontline contestants in the race. With the exception of Dr. Obiano who I think could adopt a mundane yet deeply flawed continuity narrative, no one else appears to be clearly speaking to voters with assurances that they can do better.

This for me is a low and an indictment on the worth of competitors of Dr. Obiano. ‎Other candidates like George Moghalu and Barth Nwibe are in the race but absolutely nothing is being said about how they plan to raise the bar in governance and it's benefits. It's been pictures and pictures; yet no voice. ‎

The business of governance is very sensitive. In a society as Anambra State, learning on the job cannot be tolerated as an acceptable standards of governance.

I therefore hope that front line candidates will seize the gathering momentum and start discussing the real issues which will form the basis for and justify their any attempt to remove the current administration from power.

Until then and when more qualified but quiet candidates join the competition, ‎Dr. Willie Obiano remains the candidate to beat.‎
