Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the reason behind his bold new hairstyle.

The Portuguese forward scored twice as Real Madrid won the Champions League for the second season in a row by beating Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff on Saturday night.

And the former Manchester United man celebrated by shaving his trademark spiky hair, displaying his new buzz cut in a post on his Instagram page.

But it turns out that his personal and Real's success meant that Ronaldo was forced to take the risky step with his hairdo.

"It was a promise. I'd promised that, if we won the Champions League and I scored a goal, I'd do it. I did it and I shaved myself," Ronaldo told Real Madrid TV.

"I always try to do my best for the team and things are going well. The truth is that the numbers don't lie. You can always count on me."
