No Election In Igboland: Why Nnamdi Kanu Should Be Ignored, By Tobenna Obiano

As written by Tobenna Obiano

Leader of MASSOB, Ralph Uwazuruike once asked Ndi-Igbo to boycott last Census and some did, it cost us a lot even till today.

Lately, I learnt that the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has also asked ndi-Igbo to boycott future elections in Nigeria, beginning with the Anambra State Gubernatorial slated for November 18th.

It is a good way to unequivocally tender the resolve of Ndi-Igbo to break away from the entity, Nigeria, but for now, it is ignorance and craze that has led to such outburst. I say so because one cannot just wake up and jump into conclusions and like fools, people praise him or her.

If Igbo Anambrarians do obey such silly, mischievous and ill-conceived directive, it will cost us even more. Elections has been scheduled and should hold. Anyone taking that unnecessitated directive serious is as foolish as the man who made it.

Ndi-Igbo lost so much as a result of many Igbos who failed to join in the last census and here again, we are about to repeat same mistake. If we fail to learn from our history, failures of the past are then destined to be repeated again.

Until there is wide consultations, universal support and acceptance for the creation of Biafra, we are still Nigerians and should follow in what comes out of it, boycotting elections will do us no good, it is the clearest way to give those from the other side, more rights over us.

Kanu therefore, cannot be waiting for people to come and prostrate or worship before him at his father's home in Abia like a damn God and continue to make very unguarded statements like what one cannot define. He should understand that the journey to nation building aren't always gotten by been venomous in words, or sharing hate speeches or making unnecessary and insensitive commands or even by chants of war.

And by the way, a good leader doesn't leave his people behind at moments of difficulties, a good shepherd doesn't forgo his sheep flock when wild animals come after them and a good General doesn't depart from his commandry or battalion of soldiers in times of war.

Some of those who were held back with Kanu, who stood for him and appeared in court with him and were sent to jail like himself are still in prison unbailed, while the arrow-head of their imprisonment now walks the streets, hosts various groups and persons at his home like a King, dine with the high and mighty including and most importantly, cruising with the political class.

Many young Igbos were shot dead by the Nigerian army during protests for the various agitation of Biafra which were orchestrated by Mr. Kanu. The worst is that most of these young persons haven't seen war, including Kanu himself, many haven't even read history books of war or watched common movies. If they had, like my very self, they will learn to thread with utmost caution as I do. All we want is "ozo emezina", never another repeat. "Agha ajoka", war is evil!

If there is any National cake that is to be shared, for now, as Nigerians, we must partake in it and fully too. If eventually Biafra comes into fruition, then we leave Nigeria and let their sharing formula and their elections to them. People should receive common sense!

When is Nnamdi Kanu's sick bail grant even ending, he is beginning to constitute nuisance!

  1. I could not read this write up because the author started on a a premise you cannot start an article with such abusive and vulgar utterances. Such ad hominem attacks is very wrong and I can bet you that you cannot convince anyone who you think Kanu might have misled with such arrogance in your piece.
