Justice 4 Joy Odama: Alhaji detained, fresh autopsy conducted by consortium of pathologists

Alhaji Usman Adamu, in whose Karmo-Abuja home Miss Joy Odama, the 200 Level Mass Communication undergraduate reportedly died, has been detained by Police. Meanwhile, there was a mild drama at the National Hospital, Abuja, following the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, that a fresh autopsy be conducted on late Joy.

It was gathered that during the new autopsy, a police pathologist initially alleged that the probable cause of the death was generator fumes. However, when other pathologists drew his attention to the chemical used in embalming the corpse, he realigned his position with the initial result, which puts the cause of death as cardiogenic shock secondary to diffuse myocardial infection secondary to possible acute cocaine poisoning.

Late Joy Odama The team The consortium of pathologists, which re-conducted the fresh autopsy on June 9 at the National Hospital, Abuja, comprise a Police Consultant Pathologist (an Associate Professor), the Chief Pathologist of the National Hospital and others.

Meanwhile, late Joy’s family alleged that “there is an attempt to manipulate the result with claims of fumes to contradict the initial result.

“However, the Lead Pathologist at the National Hospital has insisted and maintained his grounds on the result of the first autopsy.

“To further buttress our fears, the police blatantly refused to use the already preserved specimen for toxicology, but instead took a surface tissue of the body, which will likely not give the desired results.”
