Controversy trails marriage of comedian AY Makun as wife calls out secret lover on Instagram[See chats]

The marriage of comedian AY Makun is again in the spotlight – for the wrong reasons.

His wife Mabel ignited the recent wave of controversy by reposting – and deleting – a picture of the comedian and socialite Freda Francis, with an accompanying caption urging the latter to “stay away” from her family.

Makun had attended the push party organised for heavily pregnant Francis, an ex-girlfriend of singer Iyanya, on Sunday.

Subsequently, his wife reposted on Instagram a picture of her husband and Francis, which she captioned: “I think I have had enough of the ridiculing. Freda Francis, stay away from my family and I mean it.”

She also shared a screenshot of an intimate Whatsapp conversation between a certain ‘Freda’ and her husband. The screenshot has also been deleted – but that couldn’t stop it from going viral.

In 2016, there were widespread rumours of a crack in their marriage.

Mabel was reported to have packed out of the house while her husband was abroad working on a new movie.

Reacting to the rumours, Makun described blogs as “the bringer of bad news,” but he did not debunk the rumours.

“Some blogs are, for the most part, the bringers of bad news… and it’s not entirely the bloggers fault, bad news gets higher ratings, travels faster and sells more than good news,” he had said.

“Gossip is just a tool to distract people who have nothing better to do from feeling jealous of those few who are still remaining in the institution called ‘Celebrity Marriage’.”

AY and Mabel got married in Lagos on November 29, 2008. They have two children.
