The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has reportedly received signatures of about 188,588 voters from electorates in Kogi West Senatorial District, demanding the recall of Dino Melaye from the Senate.
Earlier reports claimed that about 52.3 per cent signatures of the registered voters in the district was recorded
The law requires 50 per cent of voters in an area sign to recall a lawmaker.
Mr. Melaye has since condemned the move, saying it would fail and was being sponsored by Kogi Governor Yahya Bello.
According to Punch Newspaper, the signed documents were contained in six bags alongside other documents and were submitted to INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
Speaking to newsmen, Rotimi Oyekanmi, INEC Chairman’s spokesperson, said he did not have details of the submission.
“I am not sure who they gave the signatures, I have to be certain before I make comment. But I heard they came,” Mr. Oyekanmi said.
Hmmm! Is Dino going? Let's keep our fingers crossed.
