Barcelona Congratulate Rivals Real Madrid On Champions League Victory

Copa Del Rey champions FC Barcelona on Saturday evening congratulated bitter rivals Real Madrid for successfully retaining the UEFA Champions League trophy.

No team had won the title back-to-back in the Champions League era since the new format started in 1992, but Zinedine Zidane's team rewrote history on Saturday when title-holders Madrid defeated Juventus 4-1 at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to move a step closer to winning the next Ballons d'Or and matching Lionel Messi's record of five wins . He took his career goal record to 600 and his Champions League goals to 105.

And Barca –who lost the La Liga crown to their rivals praised the new 12-time European Champions through their official Twitter handle.

"Congratulations @realmadrid for winning the trophy in Cardiff," Barca tweeted.

Madrid will play against Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup before going head-to-head with Barca in the two-legged Supercopa in August.
