How many personalities has Willie Obiano converted to APGA across Igbo land?
Since Peter Obi handed him over the party, he has turned it into mainly Anambra affair without any effort to explore the frontier to win more converts from other parts of Igbo land and strengthen the party base.
He rode into power with Peter Obi influence and the shadows of Ikemba Ojukwu. Sadly, Ikemba's influence has waned in the party. Mere display of his pictures on party uniform can not draw sentiment from Igbo citizens anymore. Obiano shot himself in the foot when he began fighting Obi who gave him influence few months into power.
Sadly too, Chief Victor Umeh who induced him to fight Obi is not interested in expanding the influence of the party across igbo land. His interest is on how much he could fill into his long red cap.
Obiano again damaged his opportunity when he began to antagonize Ipob and Massob. A group that has emerged as a force to reckon with in igbo land.
A smart politician who is seeking a support base would have cashed into the opportunity provided by the travails of the Ipob and Massod in the hands of the federal government and identify with them to build support. He rather antagonized and encouraged their massacre.
Now Obiano does not have a solid base anywhere in Igbo land where his interest can be protected and image of the party promoted. The cards are heavily stacked against his second term ambitions with the force APC and UPP is coming in the contest, except chance decides to favour him.
A wise politician should have used his first term to build a solid structure from every opportunity he sees to protect him in future. But he relied on selfish and greedy Victor Umeh whose sole interest is how much fills his red cap.
He drove out Obi. He antagonized Ipob, the largest mass movement that should have given him some sympathy. And there is no more Ikemba Ojukwu influence to work for him.
APGA chairmanship should have been made to come from Enugu or Abia state instead of concentrating every thing on Anambra.
I am sorry, but APGA may soon die after the November contest. Obiano killed it, if it does. He's not a politician. I wish chance would work for Obiano from Anambra citizens who still holds the nostalgia of the Ikemba and Obi days come November. I don't see much of his effort in this whole thing.
