Enugu police arrest two for stealing 3yr-old boy

The police in Enugu State have arrested a 22-year-old lady and a commercial motorcyclist (Okada) over alleged child stealing, contrary to Section 371 of the Criminal Code.

The offence is punishable with 14 years’ imprisonment, if convicted.

The lady whose name was simply given as Ifeoma was alleged to have stolen Wisdom Owaji, aged three, from his father’s house at Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

The suspects were reportedly taking the victim to Ezeagu in the state when they were arrested at Udi area by the police and taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department, CID, for further investigation.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu told newsmen that the information had not been brought to his knowledge but reliable police sources said that the suspect had approached Wisdom’s father, Onyekachi, in company of one Mr Chidi on the pretext that they were looking for rooms to rent in his house but ended up stealing Onyekachi’s child.”

The motorcyclist had also been detained alongside his motorcycle as an exhibit.
