My last check reveals that "Comptroller-General" of Customs is a rank and not just a title. Customs Officers yearn to earn promotion to that ultimate rank and when they do, they are properly decorated with the rank.
Just as I have always held the view (and will continue to hold the view) that everything concerning the appointment of Hameed Ali as Comptroller-General of Customs is wrong, I join the Senate in demanding that he must wear the uniform and rank if he must continue to answer the Comptroller-General of Customs. He must be told, assuming he does not know, that a rank is a rank and not a mere title.
It is indeed, a total aberration for a man wearing Kaftan to be taking salute from Deputy and Assistant Comptrollers-General. If he feels the Customs uniforms are demeaning to his person, then he should quit the job.
Enough of this cabalistic arrogance!
