[Updated] Popular Igbo Musician and Traditionalist, Preicome is dead

One of the most popular and successful Igbo musicians, Ichie Mezuo Pericome Okoye is dead. He died today, Thursday, 16th February, 2017 in Okigwe hospital, after a brief illness and was buried later in the day at his hometown Ndi-Ogbuonyeoma in Arondizuogu, Imo State

He is survived by wives, children and many grandchildren. Pericome was a highlife musician and traditionalist famous for his display of magical powers at the popular Ikeji festival of Arondizogu in Imo State.

According to stories, he once hypnotised tax collectors who assaulted him at Onitsha just after the head bridge. They lifted him up to take him to their office but could not bring him down until someone who identified him announced that he was the great Pericomo. He had to be appeased with some sacrifices to his deity before they were freed.
That singular act instilled fears in the heart of all 'agberos' operating at upper Iweka thereby curtailing their excesses.

Rest in peace Arusi Makaja
