The suicide bomber also died in the attack while two other suicide bombers were killed by the security agents.The late professor was born in Katsina in 1957.
The suicide bombers were apparently unleashed on the university by the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
The first attack was aborted by security operatives as a 12-year-old female suicide attacker was prevented from gaining access into the institution.

The second attack was carried out by the seven-year-old suicide bomber when he detonated his explosive device at a mosque in the staff quarters when Muslim faithful were performing the early morning prayers at about 5am.
The impact of the explosion shook the mosque to its foundation and claimed the life of Mani and three others including the suicide bomber.
The third attempted attack was also aborted at about 8am when another female suicide bomber believed to be 12 years old tried to enter the university.
She was said to have been neutralised by the police who shot at her before she could enter the university from a neighbouring community.
