Five killed, 23 injured in Delta auto crash

An accident involving a luxury bus, belonging to the Young Shall Grow Motors, and a truck, which occurred around 4.30am on Friday in Delta State killed at least five persons while 23 others sustained various degrees of injury.
According to Punch, the incident took place along the Anwai-Illah Road in Oshimili South Local Government area of Delta State as a result of speeding by the two vehicles.
It was learnt that about 35 persons were involved in the head-on collision of the two speeding vehicles, but seven of them escaped unhurt.
The injured and the deceased were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital and the St. Rebecca Hospital.
The Sector Commander, Delta State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Rindom Kumven, confirmed the incident when contacted on Friday.
He said, “Five persons died in the crash which happened around 4:30am today (Friday). Among them were three male adults, one female adult and one male child.
“A total of 23 persons were injured — 16 male adults, five female adults, one male child and one female child.”
He confirmed that the accident was caused by speeding, resulting in a head-on collision.
