On Wednesday,11th January, inside the National Stadium, Abuja, where the NPL Charity Cup was hosted, the Enugu Antelopes were disciplined and though they offered 10-man Anambra Warriors little threats themselves in the first half , but a more coordinated and sophiscated second half from the later sees the encounter advanced to a 'penalty' with Fc Ifeanyi Ubah winning with a 4-3 kick-out score.
For the Champion of Champions, it was a dreadful first half as Tamen Medrano saw red card for body contact in 30minutes inside the game. The Enugu Antelopes made Anambra Warriors worked hard but, Fc Ifeanyi Ubah have a history for a hard ball defence and a well sophisticated team, and that has got them up for a place of safety in Nigeria Premier League.
As 10- man Fc Ifeanyi Ubah enjoyed the better part of second half of the game, sprinting ball dangerously from left to right positions, the only frustration recorded was their inability to convert their chances up front.
Before the yesterday game, it was five (5) times both teams are meeting with Anambra Warriors winning three, drawn one and losing one.
AS DR PATRICK IFEANYI UBAH, THE CLUB PRESIDENT CELEBRATES THE TROPHY.
Reacting to the press immediately after the match, the club president said and I quote, "while I thankGod for making it possible for the Anambra Warriors to emerge victorious yesterday, I was moved by the great team spirit, tenacity and courage exhibited by our warriors, especially when they were reduced to 10-man as a result of the marching order given to one of our players in the first half.
In the light of the foregoing, I hereby congratulate and thank the coaching crew for their resolve and uncommon composure in the game which snowballed into a positive result today. Our players were on top of their game yesterday evening. They rose to the challenge and continued pressurising their opponent even when they were disadvantaged numerically. What a determined, focused and committed team! Thank You Boys! Thank You Warriors!
What more can I say about our fans who made this victory possible by standing behind the team? I witnessed a committed group of people shouting, chorusing and cheering our team all the way to the finish line. What was more remarkable was that while we were without drums owing to the inability of our supporters club to make it to the stadium, our fans managed to seize the frequency of the airwaves of the Stadium with their untiring cheers that turned the entire attention towards them as they became the cynosure of all eyes. What a plethora of fans we have!
For your unflinching support since the birth of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, I say thank you all.
As we are headed towards the new season, I call on our players not to lose focus but to keep striving for even more successes as we engage in both local and continental competitions.
Finally, I dedicate this victory to our fans and to the youths of this Country.
We are Champion of Champions!
Anyi bu ndi mmeri.
God bless you all"
Fc Ifeanyi Ubah has won two (2) cups in a space of two months and are ready to face Kano Pillars of Kano this weekend for 2016/2017 season opening match.
