Globacom Chairman, Mike Adenuga Names a Street After Him in Banana Island, Residents Kick (See Photos))

Adenuga
One of Nigerian billionaires, Otunba Mike Adenuga is currently at logger head with owner of Banana Island in Lagos. He is said to have been threatening to arrest the leadership of the Banana Island Property Owners/Residents’ Association, over their move to hinder him from his street been given his name.

It was  gathered that Mr. Adenuga, who owns an N8bn home on Banana Island, had approached the authorities of Ikoyi Local Government Area to change the name of his street to “Mike Adenuga Street.”, but the Banana Island Property Owners/Residents’ Association resisted his request, saying the move was against public interest and not in conformity with the rules of the Association.

It was also learned that Mr Adenuga, irked by this development, has been in cahoots with officials of Ikoyi Local Government Area and threatened to arrest Chudi Ubosi led Residents Association.

According to Olofofos Residents of the island,The CEO of GLO Telecoms allegedly recently deployed a truck load of Security Personnel to intimidate key members of the Association as he allegedly  went ahead to illegally changed his street of residence from 2nd Avenue to “Mike Adenuga Avenue”.

The move dared anyone to oppose his action and members of the Community  did not like this and felt that the billionaire had breached the code of conduct in the Estate...

2nd Avenue now renamed 'Mike Adenuga Avenue' stands out as the only street named after a human being because all streets are numbered and not named, the move sets a precedence for the disruption of the peace enjoyed by other residents of the community, some of whom are just as prominent as Mike Adenuga.
Olofofos say the Residents have kicked against this move and have decided to seek redress in court after realising that the paper works for the change of name had already been processed and finalised.

Asked, about this development, a resident, who spoke  on the  phone said,

“This is wickedness: this man moved into this Island which had street names and house numbers, now he wants to force a change of street name without regards to other residents, many of whom, were here before he came?”

Mike Adenuga is ranked 103 in Forbes list of World Billionaires, he is worth $6.5bn.
