Federal Executive Council Gives a Nod for Resumption of Work on Second Niger Bridge

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday gave the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing the go ahead to continue work on the second Niger Bridge.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting Presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Fashola said the bridge was initially conceived as a Public-Private Partnership.

He said, “The bridge is meant to give relief to the existing Niger Bridge and improve connectivity between the West and the East.

“The project was conceived first as a PPP with government financing but negotiations had not been concluded and it is important to continue to work there.”

He said the works could only be done at this time of the year before the water levels rise.
