APGA Crisis: National Working Committee Members To Boycott Planned NEC Meeting

The protracted crisis in the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, heightened, yesterday, when the Acting National Chairman of the party, Ozo Nwabueze Okafor, and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, loyal to him disassociated themselves from tomorrow’s planned NEC meeting convened by the National Secretary,  Labaran Maku, at the instance of  Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State.

The meeting which is expected to hold at the Government Lodge, Awka was allegedly being convened to afford the governor, who is the BoT chairman and leader of the party, another opportunity to reconcile the two warring factions, the Acting national chairman, Okafor-led NWC and NEC on one hand and the suspended national chairman, Chief Victor Oye on another.

Speaking exclusively to Vanguard, acting national chairman, Okafor said the NWC and NEC, of which he is chairman were not part of the scheduled convention and declared it illegal.

Okafor said: “Going by the constitution of our great party, APGA, it  is the national chairman that is empowered to convene a convention of the party and not the national secretary nor the suspended national chairman.

“As the acting national chairman, I am the only man empowered to do so. Let me ask you: who is going to preside over the meeting without a chairman? Anybody that does so would be swimming in illegality.

“So, straight to the point, my people will not be there because we cannot participate in such activities laced in illegality.”
