The remains of Chukwuka Okafor, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, who drowned in a river in Bayelsa State, have been taken to his hometown in Imo State for burial.
Okafor drowned on Thursday, November 10, 2016, in a river at Okpotuari community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, when a boat he was travelling in capsized.
At the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, colleagues of late Okafor broke down in tears as his remains were being parcelled for departure to Imo, his home state.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Ekeocha, who handed over the corpse to the deceased family, said it was a painful experience.
Explaining how the incident occurred, Ekeocha said Okafor was trying to cross the river to another community along with two other colleagues when their boat capsized.
He said while local divers were able to rescue the other two persons, they failed to find him.
