Mob Kills Burglar For Stealing Phone, Laptop, Others In Lagos

A suspected burglar has lost his life after a mob meted out a jungle justice to him for allegedly attacking the apartment of one Rasaq Olanrewaju on Fagbemila Street, Ajegunle, in the Alakuko area of Lagos.

The suspect, whose name and address had yet to be ascertained, was said to have broken into the house around 4am on Wednesday and stole a laptop, an iPhone, two DVD players, airtime cards, a power bank and a wristwatch. He also reportedly stole an unspecified sum of money.

Punch learnt that he wanted to escape with his loot when he was caught by the mob that beat him to a pulp.

Olanrewaju, who reported the incident at the Alakuko division, told the police that some dwellers eventually prevailed on the miscreants, adding that suspect was rushed to the Sango Ota General Hospital, where he died.

He said, “I was asleep when he (the suspect) entered my room. It was when he wanted to jump out through the window that I   woke up. I raised the alarm and he was caught with the help of my neigbours. Some angry youths hijacked him from us and he was beaten up. We recovered a lap top, an iPhone, two DVD players, airtime cards, a power bank and a wrist watch from him.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said two suspects had been arrested in connection with the mob action.

“The suspected burglar was mobbed and beaten to a  pulp. He was confirmed dead at a hospital. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the jungle justice and they will be charged to court,” she said.
